In light of World Press Freedom Day, Volt There is hosting a dynamic roundtable event on one of the most pressing challenges facing modern democracies: media freedom in an age of disinformation and foreign influence.
Titled “Protecting Democracy: Press Freedom, Disinformation, and the Fight for Truth,” this event brings together journalists, experts, and policymakers from across Europe to explore what it takes to safeguard independent journalism and ensure citizens remain well-informed.
Through three interactive rounds, participants will:
- Hear firsthand insights from journalists and experts working on the frontlines in Moldova and Ukraine
- Examine how disinformation and foreign interference operate in practice
- Discuss how governments, organisations, and citizens can strengthen resilience against these threats
- Explore the role of initiatives such as the ECHO programme and MATRA programme in supporting media freedom
- The session will include a panel discussion and an interactive Q&A, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with speakers and contribute to the conversation.
