Peace Finance Workshop 1 – From Principles to Practice

9 December @ 15:00 - 17:00
peace finance event the hague humanity hub

About this session

This two-hour workshop takes forward the Humanity Hub’s Investing in Peace initiative by introducing the principles and practice of Peace Finance – exploring how finance, innovation, and collaboration can actively strengthen peace and resilience.

Peace Finance starts from a simple idea: every financial or organisational decision affects trust, inclusion, and stability. While some organisations work in fragile or conflict-affected settings, others focus on inequality, governance, human rights, or social innovation – all of which influence how societies sustain stability and inclusion. Peace-positive investments put this principle into practice: they seek not only financial or developmental returns but also measurable contributions to cooperation, legitimacy, and resilience in the communities they touch.

Through short examples and guided discussion, participants will explore how these ideas can translate into practical approaches for reducing risk, strengthening legitimacy, and unlocking new forms of partnership.

  • Led by practitioners: Hear directly from professionals applying Peace Finance in practice – from fund design and social enterprise to governance and impact innovation.
  • Interactive and applied: Work through real examples, group discussions, and short design challenges that turn abstract concepts into concrete tools.
  • A first step in a series: This workshop marks the beginning of a broader learning journey on Peace Finance, with future sessions offering opportunities for deeper exchange, co-creation, and practice.

Why this workshop

Peace Finance provides a way to connect financial and development choices with the conditions that make societies more stable, inclusive, and resilient. As the boundaries between finance, innovation, and peacebuilding continue to blur, organisations in every sector face new opportunities – and responsibilities – to align their decisions with peace-positive outcomes.

This workshop offers an accessible starting point to that conversation, inviting participants from across civil society, policy, innovation, and finance to explore together how their work can contribute to long-term stability and shared prosperity.

Who is this workshop for?

  • Civil-society organisations, NGOs & INGOs – strengthening inclusion, accountability, and social impact through collaborative, locally grounded approaches.
  • Innovators & PeaceTech professionals – exploring how digital tools, data, and new business models can enhance transparency, participation, and trust.
  • Peacebuilding & development practitioners – linking programmatic work to investment opportunities that build resilience and reduce fragility.
  • Policy & governance advisers – integrating peace considerations into national, local, or corporate decision-making frameworks.
  • Impact & finance actors – from donors and DFIs to ESG investors, looking for strategies that de-risk operations and connect capital flows with long-term stability.
