Just Peace Movie Night x KUNO: Lost Land
Join us for a powerful evening organised by KUNO and The Hague Humanity Hub, part of the Just Peace Movie Nights series.
On 26 May, we will screen Lost Land (Harà Watan), a gripping fictional feature by Japanese director Akio Fujimoto. The film exposes the trauma of displacement and decades of persecution faced by the Rohingya people in Myanmar. Told through the eyes of children, it sheds light on the lived experiences of refugees by blending harsh reality with elements of fantasy, drawing attention to a humanitarian crisis that is too often overlooked.
About the film – Lost Land
In the hope of reuniting with their scattered family, four-year-old Shafi and his nine-year-old sister Somira leave a Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh and embark on a perilous journey to Malaysia. Along the way, the children encounter natural forces, exploitation through cross-border trafficking, and constant challenges that test their resilience.
Lost Land is the first feature made entirely in the Rohingya language and is shot at the eye-level of its young protagonists. Featuring more than two hundred Rohingya participants, the film offers a powerful and immersive portrayal of their collective experience.
Lost Land was nominated for the Grand Jury Fiction Award at the Movies that Matter Festival 2026.
The movie screening will be followed by a moderated panel discussion in collaboration with KUNO. We will announce the speakers soon!
