About the Rule of Law Appeal

The Rule of Law Appeal is a civil-society initiative constituted as an Assembly of ordinary people calling for justice, accountability and respect for international law.

They have submitted an appeal to the United Nations Secretary-General concerning the conduct of the State of Israel and are now building a public-facing campaign to widen its reach, encourage signatures and develop collaborations.

They are looking for a creative, knowledgeable and self-motivated volunteer to help develop their social-media presence and communicate the Appeal’s aims to a wider audience.

About the role

You will manage and develop their presence on Instagram, Bluesky and LinkedIn, with the possibility of expanding to TikTok. Working closely with the campaign coordinator, you will help shape their content strategy, create engaging materials and build an active community around the Appeal.

This role offers room for initiative and creative input. They are looking for someone who can organise their own work and follow through independently, while collaborating on content planning, campaign priorities and messaging.

The position is open to anyone with the relevant knowledge and practical campaign or communications experience. It is essential that you have some foundational knowledge of the history and politics of the Middle East, the United Nations and International Law.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage Instagram, Bluesky and LinkedIn accounts, adapting content to each platform and audience.
• Develop a realistic content plan and publishing schedule in collaboration with the campaign coordinator.
• Create compelling content, including caption, graphics, carousels and short-form video.
• Translate complex legal, historical and political issues into clear, accessible and accurately sourced communications.
• Help develop social-media campaigns that increase awareness, encourage petition signatures and attract potential collaborators.
• Monitor engagement and campaign performance, using insights to refine their approach.
• Identify relevant developments, events and opportunities for timely content.
• Explore the potential of using TikTok in supporting the campaign.

What they are looking for

• In-depth knowledge of Israel-Palestine and its history, alongside an understanding of the United Nations, the European Union and international law.
• Strong practical experience in digital communications or marketing, particularly social-media content creation, planning and account management.
• The ability to take initiative and a strong sense of commitment to the motivations of the Appeal.
• Excellent written English and the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and sensitively. Any additional languages notably Arabic and Hebrew are desirable.
• A careful approach to research, fact-checking and source selection.
• Experience and confidence using content-creation tools such as Canva or equivalent software.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently while maintaining regular communication.

Highly desirable

• Experience with advocacy, public-interest or civil-society campaigns.
• Short-form video production and editing skills.
• Experience with TikTok and Instagram content creation.
• Experience moderating online communities and handling sensitive discussions

Time commitment and location

• Voluntary, unpaid position.
• Three-month commitment, with the possibility of extension dependent on both parties’ agreement.
• Approximately 5-12 hours per week, with flexibility dependent on your availability and campaign needs.
• Flexible working hours, with tasks and priorities agreed collaboratively.
• Primarily remote, with occasional in-person meetings in Amsterdam or The Hague.

They will agree on a manageable workload around your studies, employment or other commitments.

What they offer

• The opportunity to contribute to a meaningful campaign focused on justice, accountability and the rule of law.
• Practical experience in digital advocacy, social-media management and campaign communications.
• Opportunities to build connections with people working in international law, international relations and civil society networks.
• Opportunities to attend relevant events and engage with the wider professional community.
• Space to contribute your own ideas and take ownership of agreed projects.
• Opportunity to develop a portfolio of public-facing campaign content and demonstrate the impact of your work.
