ARTICLE 19 is looking for a Board Member responsible for policy guidance, partnership building, fiduciary oversight, recruiting, supporting, and supervising the Regional Director for East Africa.
East Africa Board Member – ARTICLE 19
ARTICLE 19 EASTERN AFRICA is seeking one new board member to serve on a purely voluntary basis.
The board member tenure will be a maximum of three (3) years, and every Board member may serve a maximum of two (2) consecutive terms.
The Governance Board meets at least four times every year for the business of ARTICLE 19 EASTERN AFRICA.
The Powers of the Board include:
- To approve the organisation’s overall direction and strategy
- To develop and approve/adopt policies for the organisation
- To approve the organisation’s annual plans and budgets
- To elect the Chairperson of the Board
- To recruit, support and appraise the Regional Director
- To exercise financial oversight and to consider and approve the organisation’s annual financial reports
- To nurture and sustain collaboration and partnership with Article 19 International, its affiliate members and programmes and other relevant stakeholders
- To approve the organisation’s values, vision and mission
- To approve the organisation’s logo and trademarks
- To appoint the external auditors
- To approve the organisation’s annual report and audited accounts
- To approve the organisation’s governance structures, policies and standards
- To approve the Board Committees’ terms of reference and the appointment, renewal and dismissal of their members
- To make binding decisions in relation to any disputes with other organisations and individuals
- To act as the final arbiter on grievances in the organisation
