MapAction enables 80+ expert geospatial and data professionals to donate their professional skills and expertise to humanitarian agencies of all sizes from the UN on-down, including crisis response. The volunteer capability is reinforced by a small team of standby and permanent staff. Maps help everyone in an emergency response to mitigate a given humanitarian priority and take the best possible relief actions. This helps answer key questions in an earthquake or a cyclone, like: Which roads are blocked? What does the weather forecast look like? Where should shelters be established?
For 20 years, in 140 emergency deployments and 80 countries – and hundreds more training events with partners worldwide – MapAction has provided disaster relief agencies, governments and grassroots organizations with maps, data-driven tools and solutions to ensure decisions about resources like food, water and housing are fairly and efficiently made. This helps save lives in any emergency response.
