Gender Concerns International

Since its establishment in 2004, the mission of Gender Concerns International has been to promote gender equality at a policy-making level. That includes collaborating with national authorities and institutions, as well as bridging the interaction gap between local women organisations and the national policymakers. Building the capacity of women decision-makers for networking and training to negotiate more resources for women during parliamentary budget allocation negotiations is a way to increase women’s empowerment and therefore is a step towards gender equality.

Additionally, support is given to women leaders in conflict and post-conflict countries, and fragile and emerging democracies. As a four times signatory to the Dutch National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325, this organisation support women’s inclusion in decision making processes and leadership roles, thereby promoting electoral parity as a prerequisite for parity and governance.

Gender Concerns International‘s core work focus is to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and expertise from international and regional women activists and experts to the relevant communities and stakeholders, and to promote and support global female leadership and participation in the area of democratic parity and environmental decision-making. This organisation is qualified in accelerating and enhancing the process of change through promoting inclusive respect, recognition and resources for women’s work and women’s organisational strength, considering women as agents for change.
