ART WORKS Projects (AWP) leverages the power of photography and documentary film to raise awareness and educate the public about some of the most pervasive and grave human rights violations.
ART WORKS Projects is a Chicago and The Hague based visual arts non-profit dedicated to advancing social justice and human rights through documentary film and photography. Founded in 2006, AWP’s projects have been presented on five continents, in 35+ countries, with 225 partners, and in collaboration with more than 200 artists to produce visual advocacy tools which produce action on human rights crises at the grassroots, media, and policy levels.
Working collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders in and around the human rights community, AWP aims to amplify stories, as a form of evidence aimed at producing action at any level.
Behind every image is a story. Join us in advancing global justice through powerful visual stories that bridge awareness of action
Emerging Lens is ART WORKS Projects’ signature program that awards project support, unrestricted grants, and mentorship to emerging photographers working to document social justice and human rights issues in their own backyards and around the world.
The mission of Emerging Lens is to create a network of support for emerging photographers in hopes of creating greater accessibility to the field while making their work and the issues they highlight visible through public exhibitions in spaces nontraditional for documentary photography.
