The Hague Local Election Night

10 March @ 17:00 - 21:00

Making local democracy accessible to all residents of The Hague. Learn who can vote, what’s at stake, and ask the parties directly.

Many residents of The Hague are unsure whether they can vote in municipal elections, what the city council is responsible for, or how local politics affects everyday life. This Election Night is designed to make local democracy clearer, more accessible, and easier to engage with, especially for people who may feel unsure about where to start.

The evening offers a clear and practical introduction to how local democracy works in The Hague, with a focus on accessibility for internationals and residents who do not speak Dutch fluently. Held in English, the event welcomes anyone who wants to better understand local decision making, regardless of background or previous knowledge. You will learn who is eligible to vote, how voting works in practice, and what the municipality actually decides on, from housing and mobility to public space and local services.

Almost all major political parties will take part in the event. They will present their core priorities and engage directly with the audience during a debated-style moderated live Q&A, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and hear different perspectives in one place. The evening concludes with informal drinks, creating space for personal conversations and further discussion.

This event is intended for anyone who wants to feel more informed, confident, and included in local democratic processes in The Hague, whether you are voting for the first time or simply want a clearer understanding of how the city is run.
