Take Action for Human Rights in Venezuela

12 September @ 12:00 - 13:30

Would you like to learn more about human rights and take meaningful action? Amnesty International The Hague invites you to this interactive and inspiring event focusing on Venezuela.

Introduction & pub quiz
We will begin with a short introduction to human rights and the work of Amnesty International, followed by an interactive Human Rights Pub Quiz. Form a team, test your knowledge and compete for a fun prize!

Venezuela and human rights
Next, we will focus on Venezuela. You will learn about the case of Emirlendris Benítez, who was sentenced to 30 years in prison after an unfair trial, and we will discuss the devastating earthquakes of June 2026 and their impact on the country’s humanitarian and human rights situation.

Write a letter
Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to take action by writing a letter to the Venezuelan authorities. You can call for the release of Emirlendris Benítez and/or urge the authorities to ensure that relief efforts following the earthquakes fully respect human rights. You can also send a solidarity card to Emirlendris Benítez to let her know that people around the world stand with her.
Don’t worry if you’re not sure what to write. Sample letters and cards will be available.

The letter-writing activity is open to everyone, including people who are still learning English. You also don’t need to speak Spanish, as all letters and cards are written in English. Together, we can show that the human rights situation in Venezuela must not be forgotten.
