One-day conference Hague Appeal for Future Generations: Co-creating EcoPeace

27 September, 2025 @ 10:00 - 16:30

The one-day International Conference “Hague Appeal for Future Generations. Co-creating EcoPeace” refers to the centennial of the First Hague Peace Conference in 1899. One hundred years later, the “Hague Appeal for Peace 1999” was one of the biggest Peace events ever organised in The Hague. The one-day conference on Saturday the 27th of September offers a human-scale, creative platform for reflections as well as initiatives toward action and collaboration on how civil society (burgerinitiatief) can contribute to keeping the spirit of The Hague: City of Peace and Justice high and help protecting institutes for international justice. We support the “LAW Not War” campaign. Beyond legal innovation including advocating climate justice, we need peacebuilding capacity to find real time as well as long term solutions for the alarming poly-crisis of our time. Planetary Service for the wellbeing of future generations opens a long-term perspective on peacebuilding volunteerism and social entrepreneurship by YOUTH as our common ground. Let us co-create EcoPeace.

With a keynote by Neshan Gunasekera, Sri Lanka, CEO of the World Future Council and panelists including Simome Filippini, NVVN (Dutch UN Alliance); research activist Kees Klomp, author of Ecoliberalism and founder AGENCY!; Kees Matthijssen, retired UN Peacekeeper; Thea Hilhorst, professor in Humanitarian Studies and Natasha Hulst, Schumacher Institute USA and Labs in Netherlands / Voedselpark Amsterdam; as well as Young participants of the Planetary Service initiative with Siddharth Jain as Coordinator.

The one-day conference will be concluded by adopting the Hague Appeal for Future Generations. Co-creating EcoPeace guided by Right Livelihood Laureate and Peace activist Alyn Ware, New Zealand.

Plans will be worked out concretely in a Planetary Service Co-design Workshop on Tuesday 30 September. With a public social gathering at Vreedehuis, 15.30-16.30.
