SOLD. A Child Trafficked, a powerful 2012 film that sheds light on the realities of child trafficking and exploitation.
Shot mainly in Nepal, it follows the stories of several survivors of child trafficking who fell victim to sexual slavery in brothels across India. The movie highlights the socioeconomic factors that lead to child trafficking. Most victims are young girls belonging to the Tamang ethnic group of Nepal, where resource scarcity, severe poverty and social ostracization drive family members to sell their daughters, nieces and cousins into sexual slavery.
SOLD spotlights the price that is paid by young girls and women when society turns a blind eye to predatory dynamics and structural drivers heightened by social and financial hardships.
