Human Rights Festival 2025 – Right to life for everyone and everything

Human rights are like oxygen: you need them to live. During the Human Rights Festival, we reflect on what is perhaps the most fundamental human right: the right to life, liberty, and security, as enshrined in Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Discover, experience, and celebrate with others how we can strengthen this right, for both people and nature.
Right to life for everyone and everything
How self-evident is the right to life, really? What does it mean for undocumented people, or for nature itself? A growing number of lawyers, artists, and activists are also advocating for environmental rights: rights for rivers, animals, forests, and oceans. Because without a healthy living environment, there is no life, no freedom, and no security. During the Human Rights Festival, we explore these themes through conversations, art, music, and workshops.
The program
The 2025 program offers space for dialogue, art, music, and action. Some of the components include:
- Lecture by Jan van de Venis: on the rights of nature and universal human rights.
- Rights of Nature Workshop: Experience in this mini-workshop how you can defend the rights of nature and give your piece of nature a voice
- Vocal group KORALI: Ukrainian choral singing about love and nature.
- Dialogue in The Hague: Before the festival, discuss the rights of nature with each other under the guidance of experienced dialogue facilitators;
- Write for Rights by Amnesty International: Write a letter, change a life;
- Workshop dabke dance: together we close the festival with a dance.
- The full programme will be announced in the run-up to the festival.
