equal trade tastes better, toch? THUAS event information

The Equal Trade Alliance invites the public and the media to the event Connect for Global Change – Equal Trade Chocolate Tastes Better, which will take place on Thursday 13 November at The Hague University of Applied Sciences.

This interactive event marks the conclusion of a year-long campaign that has brought together voices from all over the world – from cocoa farmers in Ghana to students and changemakers in Europe – with one clear message: the chocolate we love so much can and must be produced under transparent and fair trading conditions.

The event

Over the past year, the Equal Trade Alliance team in Ghana has collected stories of cocoa farmers exposing the hidden injustices within the chocolate industry – from low incomes and lack of social mobility to harmful environmental impacts and personal sacrifices. These stories are central to the event through an exhibition about the chain from cocoa to chocolate and a panel discussion with voices from both Ghana and the Netherlands.

Panelists include:

  • Samson Nubi, chairman of the Ghana Union of the Netherlands
  • Kido Koenig, director of the Max van der Stoel Foundation, think tank of GL-PvdA
  • Tea Fierens, SDG-Café, former member of the House of Representatives, UN diplomat
  • Ben Flikweer CEO of Tuka Coffee Roasters
  • Dennis Kyalo, student International Bachelor Economics and Business Economics at Erasmus University and chairman of ASAH

The afternoon will conclude with an interactive discussion, networking session, food and drink. The event is open to all students, professionals and anyone who is committed to fair and sustainable trade.
