What can you expect?
Join the Community Drinks on Thrusday, May 21st, between 17:30 and 19:00, for a meaningful exchange that may spark collaborations, inspire new perspectives, or simply deepen our understanding of what it means to be part of a global justice community.

From organizations such as the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, and the Permanent Court of Arbitration to the many NGOs, innovators, and researchers working alongside them, The Hague offers a unique space where international law is discussed and lived.

This edition of Community Drinks brings together different perspectives from across this ecosystem, creating an informal space where ideas, experiences, and questions can be shared openly. International justice does not exist in isolation. It is shaped by the intersection of law, politics, ethics, and lived realities—and by the people who navigate these spaces every day.

We will explore questions such as:

  • What can field-based experiences teach us about the limits and possibilities of international law?
  • What role do informal communities and networks play in shaping careers, collaborations, and ideas in this space?
  • What do you think the state of international law in 2026 tells us about where it’s heading next?

Who are the speakers?

  • The Foundation Diaspora in Action for Human Rights and Democracy (DAHRD), aims to investigate, advocate, and engage on issues of Human Rights abuse and humanitarian crisis. The Foundation is a diaspora-led civil society organization, advocating justice, peace and collective action against grave human rights violations.
  • The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL), is an organisation dedicated to ensuring that justice is accessible, affordable, and easy to understand. By collaborating with justice providers, including ministries of justice and judiciaries, they develop solutions that enable more individuals to prevent or resolve their justice challenges.
  • The International Development Law Organization (IDLO), is the only global intergovernmental organization exclusively devoted to promoting the rule of law to advance peace and sustainable development.
  • The International Court of Justice (ICJ), is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN). It settles legal disputes submitted to it by states and provides advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by other UN organs and specialized agencies.
  • UpRights, works in collaboration with civil society and international organisations to use international law to promote accountability and support human rights.
