Connect, share & learn about what different organisations are doing to make the world more peaceful and sustainable at the Community Drinks
What if your next game-changing connection is just a drink away?
Join us for Community Drinks to wind down around a glass, make new connections, and get inspired by the spotlights of the evening. Hosted at The Hague Humanity Hub, this is the place for you to get away from your busy schedule and enjoy after-hours with purposeful conversations.
What can you expect?
Join the Community Drinks on Voices & Visibility: Who gets heard is a crowded world? from 17:30 to 19:00 for an evening of conversation, reflection, and connection around a question that sits at the heart of much of the peace and justice work happening in The Hague: who gets heard?
In a world with more voices, stories, crises, and competing priorities than ever before, being heard is not simply about having something to say. It is also about having access to the spaces, platforms, resources, and decision-making processes that determine what receives attention. Thus, questions like: Who gets invited into the room? Whose knowledge is considered credible? Who gets to tell the story? And why do some crises receive more attention, resources, and political response than others? Are deeply connected.
We will explore questions such as:
What does it mean to have a voice and once someone has a voice, who gets to tell their story and who controls the narrative?
Why do some crises receive significant media, political, and humanitarian attention while others remain largely invisible?
And finally, how can organisations ensure that local knowledge and lived experience genuinely shape decisions?
Through short speaker spotlights and an open discussion, the evening will create space to exchange experiences, challenge assumptions, and consider how we can create more meaningful spaces for voices that are too often overlooked.
Who are the speakers?
This edition of Community Drinks, “Voices and Visibility: Who gets heard in a crowded world?” brings together different perspectives from across The Hague’s peace and justice ecosystem to explore three interconnected questions:
The speakers for this edition will be announced shortly before the event. We are bringing together complementary perspectives from across the peace and justice ecosystem, exploring the relationship between voice, power, storytelling, representation, and visibility.
Rather than approaching the topic from a single discipline, the conversation will connect experiences from different parts of the ecosystem and invite participants to reflect on how the decisions we make about who we listen to, whose stories we share, and what we choose to highlight are shaped and can shape what the international community ultimately understands and acts upon.
Who is it for?
If you are interested in connecting with people and their work towards a more peaceful, just and sustainable world, this event is for you. Whatever your role or sector, join Community Drinks to relax, exchange perspectives, and connect with this vibrant community committed to making the world more peaceful, just and sustainable, one conversation at a time.
Come ready to share your perspective, meet others working across the ecosystem, and explore what it really takes to be heard—and listen to.
