Building Momentum for Climate Action: Reflections on COP29 and Future Steps

This event, organised by The Hague Humanity Hub in collaboration with the City of The Hague as part of Hague Climate Week, aims to convene professionals from diverse sectors to reflect on the outcomes of the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), held in November 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan, and to discuss its implications for the future.

Through debriefing and dialogue, the event seeks to equip The Hague’s professional community with a deeper understanding of COP29 outcomes and inspire collaborative action towards climate justice. Participants will receive updates from the conference, share perspectives on the path forward, and forge connections with others committed to accelerating collective efforts for a just and sustainable future.

Key Theme:
The event will explore the question: “How can civil society actors shape international climate policy and decision-making processes?” This dialogue aims to broaden perspectives and inspire innovative collective approaches to advancing climate justice.

Event Highlights:

Plenary Session In person and online 16:30 – 17:20

Keynote speakers will offer insights on their experiences at COP29, with a focus on major decisions, lessons learned, and opportunities for progress. The plenary session will emphasize the role of civil society in shaping international climate policy. The panel conversation will address key challenges, opportunities for greater civil society impact, and evolving roles in international climate discussions. The panel will feature initiators of the Peace@COP Policy Brief (ECCP community of practice) and representatives from International Climate Coalition position paper, who will share practical examples of civil society engagement at COP29.

Interactive sessions will delve deeper into specific topics related to COP29 outcomes and strategies for impactful collective climate action moving forward.

  • International law and climate (facilitated by World’s Youth for Climate Justice – WYCJ)
  • Feminist action for climate justice (facilitated by International Development Law Organisation – IDLO)
  • Connecting private sector and civil society on climate action (facilitated by UN Global Compact – UNGC)
  • Climate finance, with focus on humanitarian organisations (facilitated by Climate Legal Consulting and Climate FiGS – in person).

Online

  • Peace, conflict, and climate (facilitated by Peace@COP/Environment Climate Conflict and Peace Community of Practice)
  • Just Transition and intergenerational equity (facilitated by Mercy Corps)
  • Youth, peace, and climate (facilitated by the Kofi Annan Foundation)

Plenary Debrief 18:40 – 19:00 to harvests results and identify opportunities for joint action.

Networking reception 19:00 – 20:00


This will be a hybrid event, allowing for in person and online participation in the plenary part and breakout sessions. We welcome professionals from all parts of the world working on climate to join us and share their insights.
