Across Europe, AI is moving from policy ambition and experimentation into public-sector practice. But do public organisations have the capacity to shape both the technology and the organisational transformation it brings?
On Monday 7 September 2026, TU Delft hosts the European AI4Gov-X Symposium: Building Public-Sector AI Capacity in The Hague. Public-sector professionals, researchers and AI4Gov-X partners from across Europe will come together to discuss what governments need to critically and responsibly shape the use of AI and other emerging technologies.
The symposium will create space for exchange around questions such as:
Which AI capabilities should public organisations retain in-house?
How should policy, legal, procurement, technical and oversight professionals work together?
What does it take to move promising AI pilots into dependable public services?
And where can professional education strengthen capacity — and where is broader organisational change required?
Taking a critical socio-technical perspective, the afternoon will look beyond technology itself to the organisational structures, professional roles, public values and accountability needed for sustainable public-sector AI capacity.
