Practical approaches to localisation in peacebuilding: Launch event

3 December, 2024 @ 15:00 - 16:00

Localisation is widely discussed across the international development system. However, there is little consensus on what this means in practice.

Focusing on four contexts (Kenya, Rwanda, Syria and Lebanon), International Alert and its partner Mobaderoon have conducted research on what conflict sensitive localisation could look like in the peacebuilding sector, what needs to be done to achieve it, and how this may differ across settings.

Although there is much variation across the contexts, this research has identified three common facets: building legitimacy and trust, transforming power relations and developing capacities for peace. These are underpinned by the need to take a conflict sensitive approach to localisation that is adapted to local contexts.

Come to this launch event at 2pm (UK time) on 3 December to hear insights from teams who led the research in different contexts and discuss practical steps that local and international actors can take.
