GET IN TOUCHFair Tourism is a pioneering non-profit organization with over 30 years of dedicated experience in supporting community-based tourism (CBT) initiatives with indigenous communities. Throughout the extensive history, we have built deep expertise in developing sustainable tourism approaches that prioritize indigenous local communities’ economic and social wellbeing.
Fair Tourism believes in the potential of tourism to contribute to sustainability. This is done on a social, cultural, ecological and economic level. The focus is on the interpersonal connection of the environment and people. We want to get travelers excited about visiting natural and cultural wonders, while at the same time connecting with locals.
Their global footprint spans three continents, with CBT development projects in Thailand, Indonesia, and Kenya/Tanzania, working directly with indigenous communities. These strategic interventions demonstrate Fair Tourism commitment to transforming tourism from a potentially extractive industry into a powerful tool for indigenous community empowerment and sustainable development. Recognizing the critical need to nurture future changemakers, they are also active in educational projects in the Netherlands.
Here, Fair Tourism aims to lay the groundwork for meaningful engagement with educational institutions, connecting the global insights with local potential. Their goal is to inspire and equip the next generation of tourism professionals with a nuanced understanding of sustainable, responsible travel – particularly focusing on indigenous community perspectives and rights.
