GET IN TOUCHThe SDG Café is an independent and informal network of individuals committed to the Sustainable Development Goals. Its aim is to contribute to the achievement of these SDGs by connecting organizations that want to be actively involved in this. In the Café, we share knowledge and build a network. The café is a workshop that initiates research, encourages collaboration, and sets up the agenda. In short, it is a bottom-up movement for new global goals.
The #SDGCafé was created in 2016 because of two meetings organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to introduce the Sustainable Development Goals. The broad introduction created an equally broad and diverse audience, who wanted to make the SDGs their agenda from all corners of society.
The #SDGCafé is organized by a core group of volunteers, coordinated by Thea Fierens. There are network circles around that core group. It is an independent organization, without subsidy, regulations, and bureaucracy. The #SDGCafé is quirky and nomadic: it uses the commitment of participants who provide hospitality to the café, provide space, facilities and drinks. The core group of members all have a good network that they use to organize the #SDGCafé and make it a success. The host organization derives value from the relevance of the theme, the visitors who come, the dynamics that the café can bring, and its own profile.
