If you are working in a professional capacity towards a more peaceful and just world, you are welcome to join us, whatever your role and your sector. Come to the Community Drinks, relax, and join this vibrant community committed to making our world fairer and more just – one connection at a time.
Who are the spotlight speakers?
White Helmets Foundation
The White Helmets Foundation was founded in 2013 in Syria by a diverse group of volunteers. The aim was to respond to aerial and land bombings and reduce the gap left by the Syrian regime’s withdrawal of basic government services like firefighting and healthcare. The group of volunteers was expanded to 3300 female and male volunteers and strives to save civilian lives and help the communities recover from the impact of the war. This presentation will be given by Diana Khayyata.
Turquoise Mountain
Turquoise Mountain supports artisans where their traditions are under threat. The organisation started in 2006 with reviving the Old City of Kabul by clearing it of rubble to reveal the magnificent historic neighbourhood. Today, with its Institute of Afghan Arts and Architecture at the heart of the neighbourhood, it trains the next generation of artisans by connecting them to international markets, which also brings back income to the community. The presentation will be given by Nathalie Paarlberg.
Both organisations are going to present examples of the work they do, challenges they had to overcome but also want to know from their audience what their experiences have been in dealing with change. Finally, both are going to give a call to action to inspire the community!
