Unlocking Climate Finance: the Role of Civil Society in promoting Accountability and Accessibility on a National Level
11 December, 2024 @ 15:00 - 17:00

Climate finance plays a crucial role in addressing climate change, but ensuring that these financial resources are used effectively, transparently, and equitably is a complex challenge. It is therefore essential to track climate finance on a national level and hold governments accountable for its spending. At the national level, civil society organizations in the Global South are uniquely positioned to monitor climate finance flows, advocate for accountability, and push for equitable access to funding for those who are most affected by climate change.
In this upcoming learning session, Partos will explore the role of civil society in the Global South in tracking climate finance flows and holding their governments accountable. They will discuss questions like:
- How can we support civil society in holding governments accountable for just climate finance on a national level?
- How can we strengthen civil society to promote equitable access to climate finance?
What to expect
We will learn about the key takeaways of a study done by Oxfam Novib on climate finance accountability in Uganda, Nigeria and Vietnam. Subsequently, we will dive into the experiences of the Voices of Just Climate Action program in promoting access to climate finance and strengthening civil society. We will also reflect on the outcomes of the COP 29 and what they mean for climate finance accessibility and accountability. There will be plenty of time to discuss successful approaches, challenges and opportunities to amplify and strengthen each other’s work. After this in-person session, there will be networking drinks so don’t miss out!
