Humanitarian governance: SEA in the humanitarian sector (webinar)

26 November, 2024 @ 12:00 - 13:00

The webinar will feature the work of HUM-GOV PhD researcher Delu Lusambya Mwenebyake and his work on reporting mechanisms and experiences of affected populations in North and South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The paper ‘Sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA): Implication of humanitarian workers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’ analyses patterns of SEA, motivations for both perpetrators and suvivors and the socioeconomic circumstances that surround SEA within the humanitarian sector in DRC.

The paper is also the basis for the first ‘The Hague Humanitarian Studies Centre Research Brief’, which will be released just prior to this webinar.

After the initial presentation, ISS Associate Professor in Labour and Gender Economics, Dr Karin Astrid Siegmann will give a reflection on the topic of SEA in humanitarian contexts. Siegmann also coordinates the ListenH project, which aims to better understand situations of transactional sex in humanitarian contexts.

After the presentation and reflection there will be time for a Q&A.
