The Handshake with Michelle Munteanu @ISS

Are you thinking of a career with a positive impact with a with a background in international development, finance or economics? Sometimes it can even be difficult to imagine what such a potential career path can look like, or to know where to begin. Perhaps you are interested in sustainability, labour conditions, migration or asymetrical global power dynamics and would like to find out more about how to apply those thematic interests into a career direction outside of the academic world. Or maybe you are simply eager to gain more career and skills guidance and advice from a successful professional who also studied at ISS.

That’s why we invite you to join ‘The Handshake’: an event series where we invite senior figures from the world of peace & justice and “for good” sectors to reveal the ins and outs of their careers and network with students! There will be moderated conversation, time for Q&As from the audience and networking. For this session we are joined by an ISS alumn Michelle Munteanu!

Introducing Michelle:

Michelle Munteanu is an environmental, social and governance (ESG) specialist with a background in economics and international development. She is joining the Handshake to share insights from her career and how to navigate opportunities in the development economics field.

As Senior ESG Manager at A.P. Moller Capital, she manages ESG risks for power and transport infrastructure projects across Africa and Asia. With over 8 years in the field, including roles at Triple Jump (Impact focused investment management firm) and FMO (The Dutch Entreprenurial Development Bank), Michelle has developed and implemented ESG frameworks, led impact assessments, and navigated complex ESG risks in private markets. She collaborates with diverse stakeholders to align private capital with the sustainable development goals, while championing gender equality, safe working practices and inclusive growth within investment portfolios.

An alumna of the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Michelle looks forward to sharing insights on how to she put her degree into practice. She will highlight her experiences of effective ESG strategies, bridging private capital with public good,
