CYBER RESILIENCE FOR NGOs REPORT LAUNCH
27 November, 2024 @ 18:00 - 20:30

Join us for the official launch of the Cyber Resilience for NGOs report, the culmination of the consortium work and a detailed and insightful look into the cyber security landscape for NGOs in the Netherlands!
The Cyber Resilience for NGOs (CR4NGOs) project is dedicated to enhancing the cybersecurity of non-profits in the Netherlands, a sector often vulnerable to cyberattacks. Through capacity-building, tailored threat intelligence, and crisis simulations, CR4NGOs provides free, expert support to close the cybersecurity gaps faced by NGOs. The initiative leverages the proven methodologies of the CyberPeace Builders This link opens in a new tab platform.
The project brings together four key partners: The Hague Humanity Hub This link opens in a new tab, the CyberPeace Institute This link opens in a new tab, the Connect2Trust Foundation This link opens in a new tab, and The Shadowserver Foundation This link opens in a new tab. The project wants to provide NGOs with individualised support to identify and combat key cyber threats and aims to protect both the organizations’ staff and their beneficiaries from potential attacks, significantly improving the overall cyber resilience of the entire sector.
This project is part of the Cyber Resilience subsidy scheme This link opens in a new tab (2023-24) and is co-funded by the Dutch Enterprise Agency This link opens in a new tab (RVO). The project consortium is also a partnership This link opens in a new tabof the Digital Trust Center This link opens in a new tab(DTC).
The programme will feature:
- Opening words from Deputy Mayor Saskia Bruines
- An introduction to the Digital Trust Center and the partnerships towards streghening cybersecurity of organisations throughout the country.
- An interactive panel discussion on the trends and insights from the CR4NGOs report followed by the scoping of what’s next for the non-profit community, including the presentation of Beyond 125 Action Plan This link opens in a new tab
The report
A key outcome of the project is the production of a comprehensive report that provides insights into the cyber threat landscape and the cybersecurity maturity levels of target organisations in the Netherlands. The report will emphasise the human impact of cyberattacks, focusing on how these attacks affect NGOs and the communities they serve.
The Future of the project:
Thanks to data collected in collaboration with the 30 organisations participating in the programme, the report will explore the specific cyber threats facing NGOs in the Netherlands, examining their risk exposure, maturity, vulnerability profiles, and resilience against cyberattacks. Based on the analysis, the report will provide actionable recommendations to build capacities and resilience to mitigate cyber risks.
This pilot project aims to create a sustainable, long-term support system for the NGO sector across the Netherlands. By fostering collaboration between NGOs, industry, academia, and philanthropy, the consortium seeks to establish a community that ensures ongoing cybersecurity support even beyond the current project cycle. The CyberPeace Builders platform will remain a central resource, providing ongoing assistance to both existing and new NGOs. This continued engagement offers non-profits the opportunity to benefit from expert guidance and to further enhance their cyber resilience over time.
NGO Participation:
Interested NGOs can join the CyberPeace Builders This link opens in a new tab platform, where they begin by completing a brief self-assessment. This process pairs them with trusted cybersecurity specialists, who work with the organizations on a mission basis, ensuring that support is tailored to each NGO’s specific needs. Assistance may involve reviewing cybersecurity policies, installing password management systems, conducting staff cyber resilience training, and more. Over 30 NGOs, spanning various fields such as conflict resolution, healthcare access, and environmental conservation, are already benefiting from this support.
