Pro Bono Connect: Navigating the Legal Field of Defamation: Risk, Liability, and SLAPPs

The legal system seeks balance between freedom of expression and protections against illegal reputational damage. This coincides with increasing attention to “SLAPPs” (strategic lawsuits against public participation).
What do Dutch and European law & policy say about this? How can NGO’s and journalists limit their risks when publishing critical articles, reports, accusations and claims? Do SLAPPs occur in the Netherlands and how can those affected best protect themselves?
On Monday, 10 June, Pro Bono Connect is organizing an NGO workshop. Together with experts from our pro bono partner firm Bird & Bird, representatives of the Coalition Against SLAPPs in Europe (CASE) & Free Press Unlimited, we’ll learn about the rules, risks and consequences regarding critical expression in public and exchange experiences.
