Meet Augaly from Avenue Consultancy

“At the end of the day, money moves the world. You can have the greatest ideas for impact, but you need to find the right funding. And it’s not only about raising funds, but also unlocking opportunities beyond that.”

Why are you a member of the Hub?

I first connected with the Hub community after meeting Diana Eggleston at Impact Fest in November 2022. That encounter sparked my interest in building a network and finding a workspace that felt open and collaborative. I love working at the Hub, you organically meet people and so many relationships have formed from there.

What do you like most about your organisation?

The purpose it brings me! I’ve found my niche in helping social innovators overcome the funding barriers that stand between them and the impact they seek to create. At the end of the day, money moves the world. You can have the greatest idea, but without the right funding, it can’t go very far.

And it’s not only about raising funds, but also unlocking opportunities beyond that. I like that I can be an avenue helping to navigate this landscape.

What challenges do you face in your field of work?

Fundraising is no easy feat, especially in today’s political climate. But the funding exists. Innovation exists.

It’s the process of linking the two effectively that remains difficult. We’re working on something to streamline this connection and very excited to introduce it soon.

“I’ve struck up conversations just by overhearing someone talking about funding while working in the corner of the café. Those chats lead to real collaborations. I’m actually writing a proposal for one right now.”

What was your most surprising encounter at the Hub?

I’ve struck up conversations just by overhearing someone talking about funding while working in the corner of the café. Those chats lead to real collaborations. I’m actually writing a proposal for one right now. The Hub is designed to facilitate these kinds of organic connections.

What do you like most about The Hague?

What’s not to like? The city has everything – beach, forest, dunes, and a vibrant international scene – without the overwhelmingness of a big city. It’s my happy place, both personally and professionally.

Fundraising Tips from Augaly

  1. Research before reaching out – Not all funding is the right fit. Take the time to identify funders whose priorities truly align with your work, not making it just a numbers game
  2. Build relationships, not just proposals – Find ways to put your work on funders’ radars, where you can engage them in conversations, keep them updated, and show genuine interest and understanding of their ambitions too
  3. Show rather than tell about your work – Data matters and stories bring it to life. Show the human side of your work; because we’re dealing as people and not just words or numbers on pages
  4. Diversify your funding base – This is a no-brainer. Relying on a single source or type of funding is too risky
  5. Leverage your network – Most secure opportunities tend to come through networks
