We are looking for a motivated and talented Full-Stack (Geospatial) Web Developer to help us develop, deploy and maintain our geospatial services in the cloud for conservation and regeneration.
Full-Stack (Geospatial) Web Developer – Space4Good
Space4Good is an innovative social enterprise utilising earth observation technology for social and environmental impact. Combining remote sensing, GIS and artificial intelligence, we map, analyse and model complex ecosystems and support leading organisations and institutions active in nature conservation, climate change as well as peace & justice. By doing so we help impact makers on the ground to make more informed decisions, improve operational efficiency, create data-driven transparency and unlock new revenue sources at scale.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
You will support our team and clients on the full software lifecycle, which includes developing, deploying and maintaining our geospatial services in the cloud. This includes creating and containarising Python programs for various applications and managing spatial and non-spatial data for large and small scale projects. You support and take ownership to ensure reliability and improve the scalability of cloud-hosted services. You will be working with an experienced full-stack developer, front and back-end assistance, and a variety of remote sensing analysts, to improve existing services and products operating in more than 50 different countries.
You will further assist our team in:
- Development and maintenance of geospatial software and applications, using open-source technologies and applying good development practices (testing, documentation, DevOps, code review, etc.)
- Leading the software development of client-facing projects
- Contributing to the development of product features
PROFILE
- +2-4 years of experience in a Development role, bringing demonstrable experience in Cloud platform development, DevOps, Version control (Git/GitHub), and Python, in a Scrum/Agile environment.
- Experience with our stack or framework-agnostic experience. We primarily use Svelte on the frontend, FastAPI on the backend, and PostgreSQL with PostGIS as the database.
- Experience working with geospatial data, familiar with (setting up) geo-platforms, displaying analysis results from different sources and running statistical analyses.
- Excellent planning, analytic and coordination skills, English fluency and like explaining what you do, even to non-experts
- Ability to work independently, display topical leadership, and clearly ask for input/collaboration where needed
- Available as soon as possible (minimum 0.8 FTE, preferably full-time)
- Ability to work collaboratively among a diverse team in a hybrid work environment, working regular days from our office in The Hague Humanity Hub (5 mins from Den Haag Centraal Station)
- Having experience in the following topics is considered a plus: Docker, Linux, any public cloud provider Spatial data (geographic references, spatial raster/vector data, GEE, MapLibre), forestry & agriculture, and working in a start-up/scale-up environment.
