SUMMARY:Fireside Peace Chats: Peace at Home
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nThis event will be held in Dutch. \nHow can we achieve peace in our own city? What scope is there for dialogue as an instrument for peace\, amid increasing tensions in Dutch society? Come to the upcoming edition of Fireside Peace Chats\, where we will talk to Jakob de Jonge\, chair of The Hague Peace Projects\, about ‘Peace at Home’. Against the backdrop of global geopolitical instability\, this evening offers an opportunity to reflect on how peace can be achieved at the local level\, the balance between security and solidarity\, and what vigilance means in an increasingly militarised world. \n  \nThis informal conversation is intended to bring together peacebuilders\, enthusiasts and citizens to connect\, share experiences and exchange insights on how we can promote resilience within our local communities. \n  \nWhat are the Fireside Peace Chats?\nThe Fireside Peace Chats aim to create a space where practice\, research and policy in the field of peacebuilding come together in an informal way through the experiences of people on the ground. By sharing personal stories of peacebuilders and other figures with extensive experience in conflict areas\, we want to contribute to a locally informed paradigm shift in liberal peacebuilding. The Fireside Peace Chats were originally created as a joint initiative of Leiden University College (LUC)\, the Knowledge Platform for Security and the Rule of Law (KPSRL) and The Hague Humanity Hub (THHH). Read more about previous editions here. \n  \n	Register here This link opens in a new tab\n	\n  \n\nDisclaimer Photo and Video Recordings \nBy attending this event\, you agree that photos and/or video recordings may be made for documentation and promotional purposes by The Hague Humanity Hub. SUMMARY:Harvesting Insights\, Planting New Seeds: the closing of the Climate Justice CoP
DESCRIPTION:Over the last 3 years\, the Partos Climate Justice Community of Practice has provided a platform that brings together professionals from a wide range of organisations\, working on programmes that promote climate justice in different ways. We have had inspiring learning sessions on a wide range of topics\, such as climate finance\, nature-based solutions and locally led adaptation. \nThis year\, the Climate Justice CoP will come to an end. Therefore\, we are organising a closing session to look back at what we have learned and plant seeds for future collaboration. Together with the The Hague Humanity Hub\, we are hosting this session as an opportunity to (re)connect with each other\, share challenges and explore possibilities to work together in the future. \nThe session also provides a chance to situate the CoP’s work within the broader community of changemakers connected to The Hague Humanity Hub. At the Hub\, the Climate Justice community is a network of actors working at the intersection of climate\, peace\, and justice. By bringing together diverse voices\, the Hub aims to foster dialogue\, spark collaboration\, and support collective action toward a more just and resilient future. In this context\, the Hub’s Climate Justice community hopes to explore ways in which some of the initiatives developed under the Partos Community of Practice (CoP) can continue to grow and inspire further collaboration. \n  \nWhat to expect\nDuring the session we will look back on the past years and look forward to identify concrete opportunities for collaboration beyond this community in the future. Together we will explore: How can we keep collaborating to put climate justice principles into practice \n  \nThe programme includes:\n\nPresentation of the Climate Justice learning document with the main insights and learning from the past years.\nOpen Space session\, exploring: How can we keep collaborating to put climate justice principles into practice? Through this methodology you will help shape the agenda by bringing forward the topics and ideas that matter most right now. Together\, we’ll explore what issues and challenges still need attention\, and how we can continue to support each other and work together in the future.\nExposition: A glimpse into the future. What does a fair\, just and inclusive climate transition look like—both in the Netherlands and across the globe? And what are the consequences if we fail to make this a priority? Explore our interactive dioramas and discover what lies ahead.\n\n  \nJoin us for this in-person session and bring your best ideas\, questions and challenges! \n  \n	Register here This link opens in a new tab

SUMMARY:#DemocracyDrinks | Defending Democracy in Georgia: Where to from here?
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this year’s last #DemocracyDrinks\, on November 13\, to reflect on Georgia’s fight for democracy and avenues for moving forward.\nIt has already been a year since the Georgian people began courageously protesting the results of an unfair election and the ruling party’s decision to halt the country’s path toward the European Union. In response\, the government has cracked down on protesters\, filled prisons with political opponents\, and sought to silence civil society and independent media – and is now moving to ban opposition parties. \n  \nThe EU – including the Netherlands – has condemned these actions\, freezing parts of Georgia’s EU accession process and reconsidering its cooperation programmes. Yet many argue that more decisive action is needed to support Georgia’s pro-democracy movement. \n  \nJoin us for the next edition of #DemocracyDrinks on 13 November\, where we will reflect on what has happened so far\, and ask experts from and on Georgia what can be done to support the pro-democracy movement moving forward. The panel will be moderated by Amy Eaglestone (Leiden University)\, and we will hear insights from Dinara Gagoshidze (Netherlands Helsinki Committee) and Simona Ognenovska (European Centre for Not-for-Profit Law). \n  \n	Register here! This link opens in a new tab\n	\n  \nWhat are the Democracy Drinks?\n#DemocracyDrinks The Hague brings together democracy advocates\, thinkers and enthusiasts at our monthly informal networking events. It is a great way of making new contacts and catching up with people you know; for testing ideas and planning actions; for moral support and inspiration. Feel free to invite friends and colleagues that work on or are interested in defending values like democracy\, rule of law\, human rights… Come along and you will be made welcome! \n  \nThis event series is a collaboration between the Netherlands Helsinki Committee (NHC) and the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) and The Hague Humanity Hub (THHH). \n  \n#DemocracyDrinks were launched in 2018 by Defend Democracy Executive Director Alice Stollmeyer. Over time\, #DemocracyDrinks have expanded their reach and have been organized in Aarhus\, Berlin\, Brussels\, Budapest\, Copenhagen\, Kathmandu\, Montreal\, The Hague and Washington DC\, and soon also in other cities. The events attract a lively mixture of people from NGOs\, international institutions\, think tanks\, national governments and representations\, academia\, public affairs consultancies\, social businesses and other active citizens. \n  \n\nPhotos – yes or no? \nPlease note that during Democracy Drinks a photographer and/or videographer will be present to take pictures\, for use by the #DemocracyDrinks partners in future marketing efforts. These can include social media usage\, blog posts\, as general marketing material\, and to market future events and initiatives. \nBy attending #DemocracyDrinks you give permission for your image to be used to promote The Hague Humanity Hub\, Netherlands Helsinki Committee\, and Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy in the future. SUMMARY:PeaceTech Hack - Reclaim Connection
DESCRIPTION:The day after ImpactFest in The Hague\, Changemakers Agency\, We Are Changemakers\, and Project Didi are hosting a Quarter-Hackathon at The Hague Humanity Hub. \nOur mission: to co-create a prototype platform that empowers civic organizations to reconnect directly with citizens\, without relying on META or other commercial platforms. \nWe have space for a maximum of 30 participants at this in-person event in The Hague. \nThe challenge is presented by Collectief Kapitaal The Hague\, a local initiative aiming for deeper engagement with the city’s residents while remaining independent of commercial tech ecosystems. \nCould we design a trusted digital space where citizens truly own their connections with civic organisations? \nWhat if these organisations could share and collaborate within that network—openly\, respectfully\, and transparently? \nAnd how might this strengthen the social fabric of our cities? \n \nThis hackathon marks the beginning of a new PeaceTech agenda at We Are Changemakers\, exploring how technology can foster trust\, inclusion\, and civic empowerment. \nWe’re calling on coders\, designers\, and changemakers of all kinds to join us in this experiment. \nSign up to be part of the prototype for a more connected\, citizen-driven future. \n	Sign up here! SUMMARY:Faith\, Freedom\, and the Fracturing of Democracy
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a compelling fireside chat exploring the urgent and interlinked challenges facing democracies today\, from the shrinking space for civil society and threats to freedom of religion\, to deepening polarisation and democratic backsliding. \nAcross the world\, democracies are under strain. Civil society is increasingly under pressure\, spaces for dissent and dialogue are narrowing\, freedom of religion is being contested\, and polarisation is shaping political discourse. While these dynamics may play out differently in different contexts\, their echoes are global\, and deeply concerning. \nThis conversation begins from the lived realities of India\, where activists\, journalists\, and religious minorities face rising restrictions\, but it does not end there. We also reflect on the Netherlands\, our host country\, where debates around civil liberties\, migration\, and inclusion reveal similar tensions. While these concerns are deeply felt in India\, they resonate just as strongly in the Netherlands and across the globe. In this moderated conversation with Marieke Koekkoek (Volt)\, Fatimazhra Belhirch (D66) and Isa Kahraman (NSC)\, we will reflect on these concerning trends\, drawing connections between the local and the international. \nCome be part of an open and thought-provoking discussion which will invite reflection\, dialogue\, and collective insight. The panel will be followed by an audience Q&A. \nLet’s talk about the future of democracy and why it matters to all of us. \n	Register here This link opens in a new tab\n	\n  \n🎙️ Format: Panel conversation + Q&A+ networking drinks\n💬 Language: English

SUMMARY:The Future of Solidarity-Based Partnerships with Universities in a Declining Development Sector
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Hague Humanity Hub on October 1\, 2025\, to explore innovative solutions for sustainable partnerships. \nLet’s discuss how collaboration can drive positive change in a changing world.
