SUMMARY:Follow-Up Meet-Up: Collective Action For Sudan
DESCRIPTION:Let’s come together to discuss and implement collective action pathways that can make a real difference for Sudan’s future.\nFollowing our April gathering at The Hague Humanity Hub\, we would like to invite you to a second meet-up to continue the conversation on collective action for Sudan.\nThe previous session brought together participants from humanitarian\, policy\, research\, cultural\, and diaspora spaces to reflect on current gaps in international engagement and identify practical areas for collaboration. \nA number of shared priorities emerged\, particularly around youth support\, local capacity building\, civilian protection\, and the need for more coordinated engagement between actors in the Netherlands and grassroots initiatives in Sudan. \nThis follow-up session on 9 June will focus on moving from reflection toward implementation. \nIn particular\, we aim to: \n\nfurther develop 1–2 concrete collective action pathways identified during the previous meeting\,\nexplore realistic pilot initiatives that can be supported from the Netherlands\,\nstrengthen connections between ongoing initiatives\,\nand discuss how spaces such as Sudan Futures Platform\, The Hague Humanity Hub\, and others can continue supporting constructive collaboration around Sudan.\n\nAt the same time\, we remain open to additional ideas\, priorities\, and emerging areas for collaboration that participants may wish to bring into the conversation. \nThis space is intended to complement — not duplicate — the important humanitarian and emergency response efforts already taking place. The discussion will focus particularly on medium-term actions and forms of collaboration that can strengthen longer-term resilience\, civilian support\, capacity building\, and future preparedness around Sudan. \nThe conversation will remain informal\, participatory\, and non-partisan\, while maintaining a practical focus on what can realistically be advanced together. \nAbout the Organizers\nThis meet‑up is organized by The Hague Humanity Hub in partnership with the Sudan Futures Platform as part of our ongoing commitment to support key ecosystem actors and bring crucial conversations to the forefront. \n	Register This link opens in a new tab

SUMMARY:#DemocracyDrinks: Sovereignty\, stabilization\, and the Venezuelan question
DESCRIPTION:The future of post-Maduro Venezuela: democratic transition or externally managed rule?\nSix months after the U.S. operation that removed Nicolás Maduro from office\, the basic question of what Venezuela is (politically and legally) remains unsettled. Delcy Rodríguez\, Maduro’s vice president\, sits in the presidential chair. Several senior figures from the previous government remain in their posts. Chevron is signing agreements in Caracas. Commercial flights have resumed. Political prisoners are being released in batches\, while hundreds are still subjected to cruel and inhuman treatment. Almost 8 million people are in dire need on humanitarian assistance. And the U.S. administration has stated it will “run the country” until a transition it considers ‘acceptable’ can be organised. \nThis edition of #DemocracyDrinks examines whether what is unfolding meets the conventional definition of a democratic transition\, or whether it more closely resembles the post-intervention administrative arrangements seen in other contexts\, where formal sovereignty coexisted with substantial external decision-making over security\, economic policy\, and institutional design. The two are not mutually exclusive\, and the literature on post-conflict state-building suggests that the distinction often becomes legible only in retrospect. \nMeet the speaker: \nVictoria Capriles\, visiting research fellow at the Asser Institute and researcher\, legal practitioner\, and human rights advocate specializing in international migration\, gender-based violence\, and forced displacement from Venezuela\, will explore: \n\nFrom an international human rights law point of view: what frameworks actually govern the current arrangement\, what role UN mechanisms have played or been sidelined from\, and how transitional justice is (or isn’t) being structured.\nFrom the practitioner side: how donor priorities\, partnership architectures\, and stakeholder engagement shape the realities on the ground\, often more decisively than formal political settlements.\n\nCecilia Rivero\, peacebuilding and governance professional based in The Hague\, with experience in program management\, partnership development\, and facilitation across Venezuela and internationally\, will be the moderator of this event. \nCome ready to ask uncomfortable questions and leave with a more grounded understanding of one of the most complex political moments of our time. \nThe Hague Humanity Hub\n	Register now! Editions in The Hague have brought together a diverse mix of practitioners from NGOs\, international institutions\, think tanks\, government\, and civil society. The Hague series is co-organised by the Netherlands Helsinki Committee (NHC)\, the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD)\, and The Hague Humanity Hub (THHH). \nInterested in hosting your own edition? SUMMARY:North-South Ocean Dialogue and Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:An exclusive event by the Oceania Caribbean Climate Alliance\, in partnership with Global Shapers The Hague (an initiative of the World Economic Forum) \nAt the North-South Ocean Dialogue and Film Screening\, participants can expect: \n\nA curated selection of short films by leading climate activists and cultural practitioners from across Oceania and the Caribbean.\nAn engaging panel discussion featuring filmmakers and experts in diplomacy\, policy\, science\, and the arts.\nExclusive workshops and networking opportunities with international guest speakers from Australia\, Fiji\, and Trinidad & Tobago\, alongside leaders based in the Netherlands.\nTraditional kava\, music\, and rich cultural exchange.\nLanguage of Delivery: English\n\nFraming the Issue\nGeography separates the Pacific and Caribbean by thousands of kilometres. Climate change unites them in an existential struggle. Both regions are composed primarily of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) that contribute less than 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions\, yet face disproportionate and accelerating climate impacts. Rising seas threaten to erase entire island nations. Intensifying cyclones devastate communities that lack resources to rebuild. Coral reefs\, which have forever been the foundation of island food security and economies\, bleach and die. Freshwater scarcity deepens. Saltwater intrudes on agricultural land. Entire populations face displacement. The Oceania Caribbean Climate Alliance addresses this issue through grassroots community mobilisation and interregional collaboration between the young people of Oceania and the Caribbean. \nAbout the Organisation\nThe Global Shapers Community\, an initiative of the World Economic Forum consisting of over 10\,000 volunteers in more than 500 city hubs\, proves that youth leadership is not symbolic but strategic. In 2024-2025 alone\, Global Shapers delivered more than 800 projects reaching 2.2 million people\, from advancing climate resilience to building trust in AI and tackling health inequities. The Oceania Caribbean Climate Alliance emerged as a collaboration between the Global Shapers Hubs of Brisbane (Australia) and Castries (St Lucia)\, bringing together young changemakers on the frontlines of the climate crisis across two island regions.
