SUMMARY:People Centred Justice as a Early Warning and Prevention Tool
DESCRIPTION:How can justice kickstart real prevention and make a difference together? Join us for this interactive conversation on 6th May!\nAcross the world\, tensions and conflicts often begin with everyday problems that go unanswered—issues like disputes over land\, housing\, family matters\, access to services\, or discrimination. When these problems accumulate\, they can erode trust and deepen social divides long before any violence becomes visible. \nThis interactive session explores how people‑centred justice—justice that is accessible\, fair\, and grounded in people’s daily realities—can help identify and address these early warning signs. By resolving everyday grievances early\, justice systems can help prevent tensions from escalating and strengthen community resilience. \nAlthough the examples will draw from conflict‑affected places such as the DRC\, Ethiopia\, and Nigeria\, the discussion will also highlight why these lessons matter in more stable societies\, including the Netherlands\, where signs of mistrust\, inequality\, and polarisation are increasingly visible. \n📅 Date: 6 May 2026\n🕘 Time: 09:00–10:30\n📍 Venue: The Hague Humanity Hub\n🧃 Doors open at 08:30 for welcome breakfast \nWhy Attend?\nJoin practitioners\, policymakers\, students\, and the wider public for a conversation that asks: \n\nWhat everyday justice problems signal rising tensions?\nWhat kinds of justice responses actually help prevent escalation?\nHow can community-level and formal justice actors work together more effectively?\nWhat can the Netherlands learn from fragile contexts—and what can it offer in return?\n\nMeet the Speakers \n\nClaudine Tsongo – Dynamique des femmes juristes (DRC)\n\nHow unresolved everyday grievances in eastern DRC contribute to wider conflict—and what community‑level justice can do to prevent escalation.\n\n\nMoncef Kartas – Head of UNDP’s Peace Support Facility (Ethiopia)\n\nHow patterns in everyday disputes can serve as early warning signals in places where formal justice systems have collapsed\, and what effective prevention efforts look like in practice.\n\n\n\nMore information about the speakers to be shared soon. \nWho Should Join?\nThis session is open to all: \n\nJustice\, development\, and peacebuilding practitioners\nPolicymakers and diplomats\nStudents and researchers\nAnyone interested in justice\, prevention\, or social cohesion\n\nThis event is a partnership between The Hague Humanity Hub\, UNDP\, Cordaid and the Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (CSPPS) and is one of the official side events of the Justice Matters Conference by the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (Hiil) taking place from the 6th – 8th May 2026. \n	Register here for in-person attendance\n	\n	Register here to attend online
