SUMMARY:Hybrid event- From Commitment to Action: Advancing Locally-Led Development
DESCRIPTION:The OECD Guidelines\nIn May\, the OECD published its Guidelines for Supporting Locally Led Development (LLD)\, setting out a roadmap for DAC donors to strengthen local agency\, rebalance power\, and foster more equitable partnerships. The guidelines challenge development actors to reflect on how existing systems can evolve\, where new approaches can be tested\, and how collective action can better respond to local actors’ calls for greater ownership and decision-making power. \nThe Call to Action\nThis comes at a critical moment. As Official Development Assistance (ODA) faces increasing pressure and shrinking budgets\, there is a growing need to ensure that available resources are used in ways that support sustainable\, locally driven change. Against this backdrop\, the Call to Action was established to move the conversation on locally led development beyond commitments and declarations\, and towards meaningful implementation. \nThe Call to Action calls on governments\, private foundations\, INGOs\, and other development partners to embed the OECD Guidelines into their policies\, programmes\, and partnerships. This means recognising local actors as co-decision-makers\, providing more flexible\, long-term and predictable funding\, and redefining international actors as enablers of local leadership. \nThis Hybrid Event\nTogether\, Partos\, Peace Direct and The Hague Humanity Hub are convening a conversation about what this Call to Action means for the (Dutch) development landscape. It looks more specifically at how to close the gap between commitment and implementation. The session will feature an introduction to the Call to Action and the underlying OECD Guidelines on LLD. This will be followed by a panel conversation bringing together Dutch funders and other development partners to discuss practical ways of advancing locally led development and exploring ways of monitoring the commitments. \nThe Panel Conversation and Speakers\nThis event brings together experts from across the international cooperation sector to discuss practical approaches to advancing locally led development\, translating commitments into action\, and strengthening equitable partnerships. SUMMARY:Partos Perscafé: De rol van onderzoekers in het publieke debat over internationale samenwerking
DESCRIPTION:Het Partos Perscafé is een terugkerend\, informeel programma voor leden en journalisten\, waarin we telkens met andere gasten en vanuit een andere invalshoek kijken naar de wisselwerking tussen pers\, beleid\, positionering en opinievorming rond internationale samenwerking. \nInternationale samenwerking en de rol van maatschappelijke organisaties staan onder druk in het publieke en politieke debat. Feiten en beeldvorming lopen daarbij niet altijd gelijk op. Hoe zorgen we dat onderzoek en data een stevigere plek krijgen in dat debat? En welke rol kunnen onderzoekers zelf spelen om de publieke opinie rond de sector te voeden met feiten in plaats van aannames? \nDaarbij past ook een scherp onderscheid: het is niet aan wetenschappers om het belang van internationale samenwerking of het maatschappelijk middenveld te bepleiten. Wél kunnen zij\, vanuit hun onderzoek\, duiden wat de feitelijke impact is van bijvoorbeeld bezuinigingen op internationale samenwerking\, hoe de rol van het maatschappelijk middenveld verandert\, en hoe Nederland zich internationaal verhoudt tot andere landen. Feiten en duiding — los van pleitbezorging — is precies waar de pers vaak behoefte aan heeft. \nTijdens dit Partos Perscafé gaan we hierover in gesprek met: \nMargit van Wessel\, universitair hoofddocent Strategische Communicatie\, Wageningen University & Research — onderzoekt de rol van maatschappelijke organisaties en advocacy in ontwikkelingssamenwerking.\nLau Schulpen\, universitair hoofddocent Ontwikkelingsstudies\, Radboud Universiteit — gespecialiseerd in internationale samenwerking en maatschappelijk middenveld.\nThea Hilhorst\, hoogleraar Humanitaire Studies\, International Institute of Social Studies (Erasmus Universiteit) — onderzoekt de relatie tussen hulp en samenleving in conflict- en crisisgebieden.\nSamen belichten zij verschillende kanten van de sector — van maatschappelijk middenveld tot humanitaire hulp — en delen ze hun inzichten over hoe wetenschap en journalistiek elkaar kunnen versterken\, én waar de grenzen van hun rol liggen. \nWe bespreken onder meer: \nWaar liggen de grenzen tussen feitelijke duiding\, journalistiek werk en pleitbezorging\, en hoe bewaken onderzoekers die? Welke rol kunnen onderzoekers spelen in de wisselwerking tussen NGO’s\, journalisten en media?\nWat zeggen de cijfers over de impact van bezuinigingen en de krimpende rol van het maatschappelijk middenveld? Hoe verhoudt Nederland zich ten opzichte van andere landen op dit vlak?\nWat hebben journalisten nodig om onderzoek goed te kunnen duiden\, en hoe bereik je hen als onderzoeker?
