SUMMARY:NHC - Ukraine in the EU: Geopolitical and Economic Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:Overview: \n\n\n\nSince the European Council gave the green light to open accession negotiations with Ukraine\, the discussion has focused on the challenges ahead for the EU and Ukraine. After all\, the potentially long road to accession could prove to be difficult. \n\n\n\nIt is increasingly important to look at the long-term perspective\, and shift the focus to discuss the opportunities that a possible Ukrainian membership of the EU brings – making Europe safer and economically stronger. \n\n\n\nSpread across two sessions\, with a distinct geopolitical and economic perspective\, this event will bring together policy makers and experts to discuss the opportunities of Ukraine in the EU. \n\n\n\nKeynote Speakers \n\n\n\n François Heisbourg (IISS) \n\n\n\nH.E. Oleksandr Kubrakov (Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine) \n\n\n\n\nSign Up Here! This link opens in a new tab

SUMMARY:KUNO - Authoritarian Practices and Humanitarian Negotiations
DESCRIPTION:Overview: \n\n\n\nHub member\, KUNO This link opens in a new tab\, and The Frontline Project – an initiative to improve humanitarian access (by Stichting Vluchteling\, INTERSOS and IRC) – invite you to the presentation of ‘Authoritarian Practices and Humanitarian Negotiations’. This recently published book is an academic study that offers case studies on the international and domestic legal and political framing of humanitarian contexts (Xinjiang\, Afghanistan\, Venezuela\, Russia\, and Syria)\, as well as the actual practice of negotiating with authoritarian regimes (Ethiopia). Also\, a theoretical grounding is provided through chapters elaborating on the ethics and trust-building dimensions of humanitarian negotiations\, and an overview chapter provides a theoretical framework through which to analyse humanitarian negotiations against the backdrop of different types of authoritarian practices. \n\n\n\nThis event will discuss the new insights of this study with authors of the study and humanitarian practitioners. \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\n\nAndrew Cunningham (researcher for various humanitarian organisations\, board member of the International Humanitarian Studies Association)\n\n\n\nRod Mena / Rodrigo Mena Fluhmann (Assistant Professor\, Institute of Social Studies\, Erasmus University)\n\n\n\nBarbara Boekhoudt (Humanitarian Access Specialist at Stichting Vluchteling\, Frontline Project)\n\n\n\nEssie Opoka (Training and Capacity Specialist at the International Rescue Committee\, Frontline Project) – To be confirmed\n\n\n\n\nThe presentations will be followed by an open discussion moderated by Peter Heintze\, KUNO. \n\n\n\nRegistration: \n\n\n\nTo sign up for this event\, send an email to: kuno@kuno-platform.nl and let them know if you want to join in The Hague or online. \n\n\n\n\nLearn More Here!
