SUMMARY:Partos - Navigating power inequalities between Northern and Southern NGOs
DESCRIPTION:Overview \n\n\n\nThis event is an opportunity to dive into a new study providing a comprehensive analysis of concrete actions taken to shift power between NGOs. A just-completed research report\, “Where do we go from here” examines the nature\, extent and effect of actions undertaken by Northern and Southern NGOs within NGO partnerships and the broader aid system. It’s insights can help to figure out where we go from here. The study was developed as part of the Partos Shift the Power Lab 2.0. \n\n\n\nDrawing on more than 450 survey respondents and 53 interviews in the Global North and South\, the report highlights sources of power imbalances\, who does what to change it\, limitations\, barriers and priorities. Ultimately\, the report draws a clear conclusion: there is a need to go beyond actions within programmes and individual organisations. There is a need to revise the broader framework in which aid actors operate. \n\n\n\n\nSign Up Here! This link opens in a new tab

SUMMARY:Movies That Matter On Tour - Deep Rising
DESCRIPTION:To power the green economy\, a new frontier is found for extracting minerals: the deep sea. But mining the ocean floor may have enormous unforeseen consequences. And who really owns the deep sea anyway? With amazing\, otherworldly images\, and fantastically narrated by Jason Momoa (Aquaman\, Game of Thrones). \n\n\n\nEvent Overview \n\n\n\nOn Tour This link opens in a new tab is a spin-off of the Movies that Matter Festival. Each year\, they select eight great festival titles that they aim to offer a wide platform throughout the country. In cooperation with (currently) seventeen film theatres and local volunteer groups\, they screen a film or documentary that matters\, every month from October to May. The screenings are accompanied by in-depth programmes and guest speakers arranged by local groups. In this way\, dialogue and broadening perspectives in local contexts is encouraged. \n\n\n\nFilm Summary \n\n\n\n‘The future is metallic\,’ Gerard Barron\, CEO of Deep Green Resources\, tells potential investors. His company is developing ways to extract metallic nodules from the ocean floor\, which he claims will open the pathway to a sustainable planet. According to Barron\, the world’s imminent electric car boom can be fully energized by these deep sea treasures. \n\n\n\nBarron’s green pitch gathers much enthusiasm. However\, experts like marine geologist Sandor Mulsow are fiercely against mining the ocean bottom. These minerals are crucial to sustaining the ocean biodiversity – which in turn is crucial to sustaining life on earth. Besides\, the deep seas are determined by treaty to be ‘common heritage of humankind’ – in other words: owned by us all. But the organization that should defend this status\, seems easily manipulated. And are the indigenous people of Papua New Guinea\, whose livelihoods are threatened by the practice\, listened to at all? \n\n\n\nCredits \n\n\n\nDIRECTOR – Matthieu Rytz \n\n\n\nTYPE – Documentary \n\n\n\nCOUNTRY – United States \n\n\n\nYEAR – 2023 \n\n\n\nDURATION – 93 minutes \n\n\n\nSPOKEN LANGUAGE – English \n\n\n\nSUBTITLES – none \n\n\n\n\nMore Info Here!
