SUMMARY:THUAS: Mediation Awareness Week: Develop Your Everyday Mediation Skills
DESCRIPTION:Mediation awareness week introduces you to the art and science of mediation – a form of dispute resolution in which a neutral third person (a mediator) helps parties solve their disputes on their own. While there is a common misconception of mediation being solely a legal tool for lawyers\, here is why in fact mediation is for all of us: \n\n\n\nMediation has been used for centuries as a societal tool to help people live together peacefully and constructively. Mediation skills\, in turn\, are transferable skills that can help all of us build better relationships\, be it in our local neighborhoods\, among our informal networks (family and friends)\, and in our workplaces.  \n\n\n\nIn various workshops you will learn everyday professional mediation skills such as: \n\n\n\n\nActively listening and communicating for your voice to be heard\n\n\n\nThe art of networking\n\n\n\nManaging and learning from your emotions\n\n\n\nCombining different perspectives to common problems\n\n\n\nFinding your unique mediation style\n\n\n\n\nThis week of events will offer an opportunity to practice these skills in different contexts\, increasing the awareness and practical understanding of mediation. Everyone from both inside and outside of THUAS is welcome to attend\, with students receiving priority. \n\n\n\nMore information about Mediation Awareness Week and what is offered can be found below. \n\n\n\n\nMore Information

SUMMARY:peace&justice café: Towards Climate Equity
DESCRIPTION:“Climate Change is happening now\, and to all of us. No country or community is immune. And\, as is always the case\, the poor and vulnerable are the first to suffer and the worst hit.” – UN Secretary-General António Guterres \n\n\n\nThe climate crisis is already having huge effects within our world: from governmental changes to business shifts\, protests; conflicts\, and much more. During discussions about the need for immediate action\, it’s often said that humans are driving the climate towards a series of ‘tipping points’; irreversible and critical points of no return. \n\n\n\nIn the next edition of the peace&justice café\, The Hague community will explore the various ways that climate change is affecting lives across the globe\, and at the intersections of rapidly developing challenges – and what needs to be done to keep the crisis from escalating beyond these ‘tipping points’. For more information about our roundtables and speakers you can check the Humanity Hub Social Media accounts and soon our website. \n\n\n\nIf you would like to participate as a roundabout host\, or have a suggestion for a great organisation or keynote speaker you would like to see at this café\, please email us at programming@humanityhub.net. \n\n\n\nThe event starts at 16:00\, doors will be open at 15:30 \n\n\n\n\nSign up here!

SUMMARY:T.M.C Asser Annual Lecture: 'The Right to Food\, Violence\, and Food Systems' by Michael Fakhri
DESCRIPTION:“One of the main causes of hunger and famine is violence and armed conflict. In turn\, armed conflict leads to more food insecurity. How then to get out of this vicious cycle?” says Michael Fakhri\, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food and an internationally recognised expert on food systems and human rights. On April 20\, 2023\, Professor Fakhri will deliver the 8th Annual T.M.C. Asser Lecture in the Peace Palace in the Hague. The title of his lecture is: ‘The right to food\, violence\, and food systems’. To allow for a better understanding of how food systems operate and to reframe how the right to food is addressed in international law\, Michael Fakhri will examine forms of violence in food systems in his lecture.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nMore information and sign-up
