SUMMARY:Towards Risk-Sharing - Perspectives on localization and risk management in the context of Covid-19
DESCRIPTION:The Covid19-crisis has highlighted the critical role played by national and local NGO humanitarian organisations to an unprecedented extent. At the same time Covid is posing new risks for humanitarian responders\, especially to the local actors in their critical role. Wider efforts to strengthen support to national and local actors in the response are on-going. This webinar will focus on the topic of risk management and poses the following question: How can we better share risks between local and international actors in humanitarian response to Covid19 and beyond?\n\nRecent years have brought a proliferation of risk management standards\, tools and requirements in humanitarian action to address concerns over safeguarding\, financial management and other aspects of quality and accountability. Two concepts have come to the fore. ‘Risk transfer’ refers to how donors and international humanitarian agencies expect local partners to manage risk without adequately supporting them to do so. ‘Risk sharing’ refers to the concept of shifting towards a more partnership-based approach to understanding\, managing and mitigating risk. \nCAFOD\, CORDAID\, C4C\, EISF\, DRA and KUNO invite you to a webinar sharing perspectives from national NGOs working in Syria\, Myanmar and Nigeria\, and reflections from international donors\, INGOs and UN agency representatives on ways forward. Other participants will be invited to pose questions and responses via a chatbox. \n\n\nSpeakers (preliminary)\n\n\n\nJosephine Habba\, National Coordinator Jireh Doo Foundation Nigeria and National Coordinator NINGONET\nRepresentative of Donor Organizations\nRepresentatives of local NGOs in Syria and Myanmar\nRepresentative(s) of the Steering committee for Humanitarian Response / international NGOs.

SUMMARY:‘Mediated trust: a theoretical framework to address the trustworthiness of technological trust mediators’ [Research seminar]
DESCRIPTION:On 11 June\, the Asser Institute is proud to welcome Dr Balázs Bodó. During this research seminar\, he will be presenting his paper: ‘Mediated trust: a theoretical framework to address the trustworthiness of technological trust mediators’. \nTrust is what enables the cooperation of strangers in face of risks\, contingencies\, and potential harm. We are going through a global crisis of trust due to globalization and digitization. On the one hand\, digital technologies contribute to this crisis through their destabilizing and disruptive effects. On the other hand\, they offer new ways to produce trust. In either case\, digital technologies permeate and transform almost every space where trust may emerge\, is produced\, and used. This creates new\, often unknown types of risks and contingencies\, which also require trust to be overcome. \n\n\n\nWe are entering an era where trust is technologically mediated\, yet what little we know about the trustworthiness of trust mediating technologies gives us no reason to trust them.\nWe need trust technologies we can have confidence in. To achieve that goal\, we need to understand the limitations of using purely technological ways of producing trust\, and upgrade or change our existing institutional logics of trust production and distrust mitigation to incorporate technological trust mediators. \nThis talk outlines the current crisis of trust\, the challenges technological modes of trust production generate\, the nature of the institutional change\, and the policies which can produce trustworthy technological trust mediators. \n  \nAsser research seminars \nDuring the Asser Research Seminars\, external researchers are invited to present their current and upcoming research with the Asser research community. The seminars are semi-open\, as we invite a few external people who may be interested in the specific topic of the seminar. However\, we aim to keep the group’s size limited\, to stimulate interaction and high quality\, in-depth discussions. Researchers who are interested in presenting their research to the Asser research community are welcome to send an e-mail to Dr Christophe Paulussen (c.paulussen@asser.nl).

SUMMARY:KUNO Covid-Café: How Covid affects migrants and refugees
DESCRIPTION:Register here: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_R7L7en5GQM2yRIwazxBadg\n  \n\nThe Covid-19 crisis is posing a challenge to the world in unprecedented ways and it is influencing our daily lives. It will most definitely also change our work in the humanitarian sector. This needs to be discussed: with humanitarian professionals\, with policymakers\, academics\, and certainly also with a broader audience: citizens that are firmly interested this topic\, but who may also have worries. This is why KUNO in cooperation with partners\, is introducing the KUNO Covid Café. Every week we organize an online café\, to discuss the changing world with inspiring speakers and a wide audience.\n\nThe first series of the Covid-Café will be a joint Oxfam Novib – KUNO effort. \nIn this fifth episode of the Café we will talk about the consequences of Covid on migrants and refugees with the following speakers: \n\n\nIain Byrne\, Head of Refugee and Migrant Rights and Deputy Programme Director (ag.)\, Global Issues Programme\, Special Advisor\, Strategic Litigation\, Amnesty International – International Secretariat on the 14 principles of protection for migrants and displacement during Covid-19\, \nand \nEvelien van Roemburg\, the Europe Migration Campaign Manager for Oxfam International on the work of Oxfam in Greece and Italy around the Covid-response. \nThe KUNO Covid-Café is a low-key webinar\, which you can enjoy with a cup of tea or coffee\, at the end of your work day. It’s a great opportunity to stay in touch on relevant developments within our sector\, and to discuss with the guest speakers via the chat in the webinar. You can also e-mail any questions you may have beforehand to kuno@kuno-platform.nl\, we will then do our best to incorporate them into the webinar.
