SUMMARY:Future Session: Circular Economy
DESCRIPTION:Future Session: How the Circular Economy Can Generate Opportunities for Developing Cities \nJoin us and learn about Metabolic’s systems-thinking approach to cities and participate in an intervention game to devise potential circular solutions for a rapidly-expanding city in the developing world! \n  \nIn 2019\, The Spindle and the Hague Humanity Hub collaborate in organising a series of (almost) monthly inspirational working sessions for our mutual communities! In the next months\, we will dedicate three Future Sessions to exploring the future of cities and the significance of urban trends for development and development cooperation. The world is increasingly becoming more urban\, with Africa and Asia being the fastest urbanizing continents. Cities are growing in size\, and by 2030\, there will be 41 cities with more than 10 million inhabitants. During this Future Session Special\, we explore the challenges\, consequences and opportunities for you and your organisation. The sessions are high in energy and always involve an expert. \n  \nThe Netherlands is leading the way on the transition to a circular economy that is regenerative and waste-free by design. But how can this emerging economic system address the challenges facing fast-growing cities in the developing world? Join Tamara Streefland This link opens in a new tab\, Cities Lead at Amsterdam-based consultancy and thinktank Metabolic\, for a workshop exploring how the latest circular city methodologies could apply in a developing world context. \nAttend a rundown on Metabolic’s systems-thinking approach to working with cities\, and participate in an intervention game to devise potential circular solutions for a rapidly-expanding developing city. What opportunities can a circular approach deliver for urban centres in the developing world? What are the main barriers in the way of a transition? What key leverage points can we target to overcome these barriers? Register below to tackle these questions and more. \n  \n[av_button label=’More information and registration’ link=’manually\,https://thespindle.org/event/future-session-7-how-the-circular-economy-can-generate-opportunities-for-developing-cities/’ link_target=” size=’small’ position=’center’ label_display=” icon_select=’no’ icon=’ue800′ font=’entypo-fontello’ color=’theme-color’ custom_bg=’#444444′ custom_font=’#ffffff’ av_uid=” custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=”] \n  \n\nThis will be the second Future Session in a row of three inspirational and interactive meet-ups revolving around the future of cities and its significance for development and development cooperation. The other Future Sessions in this thematic series are: \n\nTuesday\, August 27: Economic Perspectives on Urban Futures and Resilience\, with Paula Nagler (IHS);\nTuesday\, October 29: Urban Resilience\, with Cordaid and AMS Institute – save the date!\n\n

DESCRIPTION:The book presentation and kickoff already took place\, but the photography exhibition of the photojournalist Jure Eržen can be seen at the Humanity Hub until 17 October. If you would like to visit the exhibition\, please let us know at info@humanityhub.net. \n  \n\nThe Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia kindly invites you to a book presentation by the award-winning journalist and war correspondent \nBoštjan Videmšek – “Dispatches from the Frontlines of Humanity”\, A Book of Reportage \nThe conversation will be moderated by Mr Peter Heintze\, coordinator of KUNO – Platform for Humanitarian Knowledge Exchange in the Netherlands. \nBoštjan Videmšek has reported from all major conflicts in last 20 years. \nHis book Dispatches from the Frontline of Humanity is an in-depth reportage on the global refugee crisis and the causes behind it.The book was recently published in English by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. \nThe event will be accompanied by the opening of a photography exhibition of the photojournalist Jure Eržen (the exhibition will run until 17 October). \n  \nPlease register here before 18 September 2019: \n  \n[av_button label=’Registration’ link=’manually\,https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dispatches-from-the-frontlines-of-humanity-book-presentation-exhibition-registration-71622674347′ link_target=’_blank’ size=’small’ position=’center’ label_display=” icon_select=’no’ icon=’ue800′ font=’entypo-fontello’ color=’theme-color’ custom_bg=’#444444′ custom_font=’#ffffff’ av_uid=” custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=”] \n  \nDispatches from the Frontlines of Humanity is an in-depth reportage on some of the most defining issues of our time\, namely the global refugee crisis\, the conflicts displacing these masses of humanity\, and the causes behind them. It is also an ode to the vanishing art of the long-form feature or reportage\, which is disappearing because many media organisations can no longer afford it\, or are unwilling to pay for this kind of time-consuming\, on-the-ground journalism. \n This book showcases a keen eye for the human story and a profound commitment to the human family. By telling the stories\, it helps put a human face on the suffering that is too often viewed statistically and quantitatively. \nBoštjan Videmšek is an award-winning Slovenian journalist\, war correspondent\, and playwright. He is the author of several books about wars\, conflicts\, migration\, refugees\, the Arab Spring\, and the Greek financial crisis\, including 21st Century Conflicts: Remnants of War(s). His articles and stories have been published in The New York Times\, Politico\, Le Figaro\, Der Spiegel\, Aftenposten\, El Periodico\, Sydney Morning Herald\, Middle East Eye\, and Atlantic Post\, among others. He has reported from all major conflicts in last 20 years\, including those in Iraq\, Afghanistan\, Syria\, Darfur\, South Sudan\, Pakistan\, Gaza\, Libya\, Somalia\, and Kosovo.
