SUMMARY:Water Productivity Masterclass Series: Socioeconomic Water Productivity
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is part five of a six-part masterclass series from the Water Productivity Improvement in Practice (WaterPIP) project. In this series\, we will provide attendees with a step-by-step approach to monitor and interpret irrigation performance indicators using open-source tools and provide context through applied case studies. Monitoring at different spatial scales will be discussed (including at crop level\, by irrigation scheme\, and in river basins) as well as monitoring techniques for biophysical and socioeconomic parameters of water productivity. \nWater productivity can be defined in various ways: in biophysical water productivity (yield per unit of water consumed\, kg/m3)\, economic water productivity (financial returns per unit of water consumed\, $/m3) and social objectives (stability\, equity\, employment\, food security\, etc.). Each definition reveals another piece of the puzzle\, but all of them are needed to provide a complete view of water productivity. \nThis masterclass webinar from WaterPIP is aimed at introducing different definitions of water productivity and how each definition inform a complex debate. After the completion of this webinar\, you will acquire a holistic understanding of the interconnections and trade-offs between different types of water productivities. You will also become familiar with a framework on how to assess different policy strategies related to water productivity. \nHow to attend\nYou can find more information on the Water Productivity Masterclass Series This link opens in a new tab at www.un-ihe.org/events  This link opens in a new taband www.thewaterchannel.tv/webinars This link opens in a new tab. \nDownload the flyer here This link opens in a new tab \nThis webinar series is free to attend and open to the public. SUMMARY:Expert Lunch and Learn: "How to Achieve Financial Sustainability as a base for Upscaling Impact?
DESCRIPTION:Assuming that a Civil Society Organization (CSO) has successfully measured their impact\, then the next step for them could be (or perhaps should be) to upscale. \nUpscaling in non-for-profit organizations is about increasing their social impact. To embark on this endeavour\, a few preconditions must be in place which the most important one is organizational sustainability. And to achieve that\, organizations need to arrange certain conditions among which are diversifying funding resources and increasing self-financing. In this Lunch & Learn session\, Somaye Dehban – founder of Your Funding Network – walks us through the types of upscaling and elaborates on funding diversification and means of self-financing. This session is a build upon the previous session on fundraising titled “Fundraising Revisited – The hidden treasure(s) in our existing set up”; yet\, if you have not attended that session\, you can still benefit from the knowledge shared during this session. Throughout the session\, there are opportunities for interaction\, so bring along your questions. \n \nEqual Opportunity to Thrive! \nSomaye wants a world in which everyone has the equal opportunity to thrive – to realize this\, she has devoted her life and career for the next decade to significantly and systematically contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals. She does that by connecting unlikely allies to upscale their impact. As one of the forces and pillars for achieving the 2030 Agenda\, Somaye believes in the collective power of Civil Society Organizations and through Your Funding Network provides the means for their organizational sustainability. That is an absolute requirement for them for having the ability to upscale their impact. \nSomaye is currently pursuing a part-time PhD at Rotterdam School of Management in CSOs Impact Measurement and Impact Scale Up. Prior to this\, Somaye has studied Applied Mathematics in Computer Sciences\, Comparative Women’s Studies in Culture and Politics\, Global Education: Human Rights Dimension which has equipped her with the ability to perceive challenges from multiple and diverse angles. \nSomaye is actively engaged with the Dutch and Iranian political contexts: she is an ambassador of Sustainability Think Tank (Liberaal Groen) of the Dutch People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie – VVD); and works with Iranian Civic Activists on how to bring about change at their personal and local environments through Change Management. \nSince 2017\, Somaye has been an IVLP fellow (International Visitors Leadership Program – the premier program of the U.S. Department of States) in NGO Management & Civic Engagement. She has also been recognized for her efforts in empowering women throughout her career by Erasmus Centre for Women and Organizations and receiving the International Women’s Day Award in 2017. \nSomaye serves as a member of the advisory board of several organizations such as RUG/Campus Fryslan\, Nederland Filantropieland (merged with Goede Doelen Nederland)\, Spark Women and Netwerk VN-Vrouwenverdrag. \nSomaye lives with her partner Remko and their two sons\, Jeso and Robert\, in the east of Utrecht\, the Netherlands.

SUMMARY:The Perspective of Local Actors on the Grand Bargain
DESCRIPTION:On 25 June 2020 the signatories of the Grand Bargain met (online) to discuss the proceedings over the last year\, and needed next steps for the near future. Important issues\, indeed. Donor organisations and International NGOs could reflect on the developments\, identify gaps and decide on the ways forward. Only one representative of local/ national actors could make a statement\, so any substantial inputs from local and national organisation was missing especially when it came to discussion on localisation. There was a lot of “talk about them without them”.\n\nA4EP (Alliance 4 Empowering Partners) and KUNO (Platform for Humanitarian Knowledge Exchange) organize this webinar to provide space for hearing of southern perspectives on the Grand Bargain: the proceedings and the needed next steps for the future. It will bring together voices from different regions to provide their perspectives. In some countries\, there has been GB missions in the past\, they can also share information on progress made in the last year from their perspective and what actions are necessary to move things forward and contribute to what should be the shape of the future of the Grand Bargain. \nWe will present perspectives from Africa\, Asia\, MENA and Latin America (the names of our speakers will follow soon). The introductions will be followed by an online discussion on results\, challenges and opportunities. Attendees will be asked to participate actively via the Chatbox and to share their questions in advance via email. \nPlease join our online discussion and register on the left. You will then receive a Zoom-link via e-mail. \n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\nBarkat Ullah Maruf\, Joint Director in COAST\, Bangladesh\nFatima Imam\, Founder Executive Director Rehabilitation Empowerment and better Health Initiative (REBHI)\, Nigeria\nGum Sha Awng\, Executive Director Metta Foundation\, Myanmar\nSudhanshu S. Singh\, CEO Humanitarian Aid International\, India\n\nModerated by Smruti Patel (A4EP) & Peter Heintze (KUNO)

SUMMARY:Delivering on SDG 17: Going Further\, Together
DESCRIPTION:The Task Team on CSO Development Effectiveness and Enabling Environment is co-hosting a virtual side event with The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland on the margins of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. \n\n\n\nThis side event will focus on the crucial role civil society organizations (CSOs) must play in the implementation of SDG 17 (global partnership)\, and with that\, all SDGs. It will show there are serious gaps between what has been agreed internationally and what happens in practice. \nDuring this side event\, an independent study by the International Institute of Social Studies will be presented which includes the finding that large parts of civil society\, especially those that are not part of the typical aid communities in the capitals\, are not sufficiently engaged in the SDGs and consultations at the country level. \nProgramme\nThis side event will be hosted by the Government of Ireland\, as Co-chair of the Task Team\, with contributions from: \n\nKenya (TBC)\nCanada (TBC)\nthe CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness (CPDE)\nthe OECD\n\nThe opening address will likely be given by a senior level representative from the Government of Ireland\, followed by a keynote address from Mr. Clément Voule\, UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association.

SUMMARY:Captive No More: A Pathfinder’s Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Behind closed doors\, domestic violence is a serious issue made worse as women around the world are locked at home due to COVID. But that’s not the only threat women of Northeastern Nigeria contend with; they also face the threat of Boko Haram kidnappings. \nEscape means freedom—but not an end to the trial. Many former captives come home only to be rejected by their communities. These women must process deep trauma\, support themselves\, and somehow resume life. The challenge is bleak. \nBut they’re not alone. Meet two extraordinary Nigerian women who are changing the story. \nFatima Asikira\, a former Searcher\, runs Borno Women Development Initiative\, which focuses on social justice and education for girls and women—specifically former captives of Boko Haram. Fatima Bultu is a female radio host who gives airtime for women to talk about human rights\, health\, and welcoming former captives into the community. \nBoth Fatimas have dedicated their lives to empowering girls and women in the face of violence. There’s a lot that we can learn. \nJoin us Thursday\, July 16th for a live discussion and Q&A from the audience. We’ll be taking your questions on Facebook Live.
