SUMMARY:Dispatches from the Frontlines of Humanity
DESCRIPTION:The book presentation and kickoff already took place\, but the photography exhibition of the photojournalist Jure Eržen can be seen at the Humanity Hub until 17 October. If you would like to visit the exhibition\, please let us know at info@humanityhub.net. \n  \n\nThe Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia kindly invites you to a book presentation by the award-winning journalist and war correspondent \nBoštjan Videmšek – “Dispatches from the Frontlines of Humanity”\, A Book of Reportage \nThe conversation will be moderated by Mr Peter Heintze\, coordinator of KUNO – Platform for Humanitarian Knowledge Exchange in the Netherlands. \nBoštjan Videmšek has reported from all major conflicts in last 20 years. \nHis book Dispatches from the Frontline of Humanity is an in-depth reportage on the global refugee crisis and the causes behind it.The book was recently published in English by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. \nThe event will be accompanied by the opening of a photography exhibition of the photojournalist Jure Eržen (the exhibition will run until 17 October). \n  \nPlease register here before 18 September 2019: \n  \n[av_button label=’Registration’ link=’manually\,https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dispatches-from-the-frontlines-of-humanity-book-presentation-exhibition-registration-71622674347′ link_target=’_blank’ size=’small’ position=’center’ label_display=” icon_select=’no’ icon=’ue800′ font=’entypo-fontello’ color=’theme-color’ custom_bg=’#444444′ custom_font=’#ffffff’ av_uid=” custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=”] \n  \nDispatches from the Frontlines of Humanity is an in-depth reportage on some of the most defining issues of our time\, namely the global refugee crisis\, the conflicts displacing these masses of humanity\, and the causes behind them. It is also an ode to the vanishing art of the long-form feature or reportage\, which is disappearing because many media organisations can no longer afford it\, or are unwilling to pay for this kind of time-consuming\, on-the-ground journalism. \n This book showcases a keen eye for the human story and a profound commitment to the human family. By telling the stories\, it helps put a human face on the suffering that is too often viewed statistically and quantitatively. \nBoštjan Videmšek is an award-winning Slovenian journalist\, war correspondent\, and playwright. He is the author of several books about wars\, conflicts\, migration\, refugees\, the Arab Spring\, and the Greek financial crisis\, including 21st Century Conflicts: Remnants of War(s). His articles and stories have been published in The New York Times\, Politico\, Le Figaro\, Der Spiegel\, Aftenposten\, El Periodico\, Sydney Morning Herald\, Middle East Eye\, and Atlantic Post\, among others. He has reported from all major conflicts in last 20 years\, including those in Iraq\, Afghanistan\, Syria\, Darfur\, South Sudan\, Pakistan\, Gaza\, Libya\, Somalia\, and Kosovo. SUMMARY:Accountability for the Rohingya Genocide: the ICJ Case
DESCRIPTION:The Rohingya genocide in Myanmar is one of the most pressing human rights challenges of our times. There have been various attempts at accountability\, including the UN Fact-Finding Mission and Investigative Mechanism and the pending ICC investigation\, although nothing has borne fruit yet. \nHowever\, at the United Nations General Assembly in September\, The Gambia announced its intention to bring a case to the International Court of Justice under the 1948 Genocide Convention for the Rohingya genocide. \nOn Monday\, 11 November\, No Peace Without Justice is convening a meeting with the participation of Hon. Abubacarr Tambadou\, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of The Gambia and members of his legal team\, some representatives of the Rohingya community\, and others that have been most supportive of this initiative to provide an update on the ICJ initiative\, also addressing the implications of State responsibility under the Genocide Convention for deterring further crimes and providing redress for the victims and the role for civil society and other stakeholders in this important accountability initiative. \nThe meeting is organised together with the Association pour la Lutte Contre l’Impunité et pour la Justice Transitionnelle\, the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights\, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH)\, the Global Center for the Responsibility to Protect\, the Global Justice Center\, Human Rights Watch\, the International Bar Association Human Rights Initiative\, Parliamentarians for Global Action and the Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice.\n\n\nParticipation in the event is free\, but registration is required!\n\n[av_button label=’Register now’ link=’manually\,https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/accountability-for-the-rohingya-genocide-the-icj-case-registration-80219664175′ link_target=” size=’large’ position=’center’ label_display=” icon_select=’no’ icon=’ue800′ font=’entypo-fontello’ color=’theme-color’ custom_bg=’#444444′ custom_font=’#ffffff’ av_uid=” custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=”]

SUMMARY:Political Cafe: Power-Sharing Agreement in Sudan
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday 23 November\, FMS\, Africa in Motion and ‘the Association of the Sudanese Community in The Netherlands’ would like to welcome you to their political cafe on the current situation in Sudan. \nIn April this year\, 30-year ruling President Omar al-Bashir and his government were replaced by the military after months of vast protests\, which started over a tax on bread and fuel subsidies issued in December. After the military overthrew al-Bashir\, the demonstrators demanded a rapid transition to a civilian government. For weeks there were tense negotiations with the military\, while mass demonstrations were held. After severe escalations in June 2019 in which more than a hundred civilians were killed\, the two sides reached a power-sharing agreement. \nWhat does this power-sharing agreement entail exactly? What are the political challenges of Sudan? And what is the way forward? We will answer these and other questions\, and reflect on what our role can be together with experts\, activists\, and an engaged audience. \nCome and join the conversation on Saturday\, 23 November! Registration is mandatory. \n[av_button label=’Register now’ link=’manually\,https://www.foundationmaxvanderstoel.nl/agenda/agenda_item/t/political_cafe_power_sharing_agreement_in_sudan_what_needs_to_be_done’ link_target=” size=’large’ position=’center’ label_display=” icon_select=’no’ icon=’ue800′ font=’entypo-fontello’ color=’theme-color’ custom_bg=’#444444′ custom_font=’#ffffff’ av_uid=” custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=”]

SUMMARY:Future Session: Consumer Centred (Digital) Health Care
DESCRIPTION:Do you work around IT for Good? Universal Health Coverage? Digital health? Health governance? Innovation? Then you cannot miss this Future session! \nFrom digital health innovations to sustainable health care.\nOnly a few countries globally have a health system that is staffed with sufficient numbers of trained and motivated health professionals\, backed by qualitative health information provision platforms\, coordinated by a well-maintained health infrastructure\, matched to the consumers’ health needs and abilities. \nAt least 400 million (young) people globally lack access to the most important health information and services and by 2030 an estimated shortage of 18 million health professionals is anticipated. At the same time\, new diagnostics\, devices\, drugs and digital innovations are transforming how (young) people interact with the health sector. Therefore\, innovative and evidence-based models that go beyond the traditional health sector response are necessary. \nNew diagnostics\, devices\, drugs and digital innovations are transforming how people interact with the health sector. Therefore\, innovative and evidence-based models that go beyond the traditional health sector response are necessary. During this future session your brains will be teased on the following questions: \n\nHow do you design health care around consumers?\nHow do you lower the burden on the health care system?\nHow do you reduce cost and more efficient use of health care services and resources?\nHow do you promote self-care?\nHow do you use digital health for scale and sustainability?\n\nAlexander Medik from Aidsfonds Soa Aids Nederland will present an innovative consumer-centred framework –Stepped Care Model for Sexual Health to reach all young people through digital health. There will be examples from South-African\, Kenya and the Netherlands. \n[av_button label=’Register now’ link=’manually\,https://thespindle.org/event/future-session-9-consumer-centred-digital-health-care/’ link_target=” size=’large’ position=’center’ label_display=” icon_select=’no’ icon=’ue800′ font=’entypo-fontello’ color=’theme-color’ custom_bg=’#444444′ custom_font=’#ffffff’ av_uid=” custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=”]
