SUMMARY:Round Table on Universal Health Coverage (UHC)
DESCRIPTION:Share-net International invites you to the Round Table on Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The event will take place on the 3rd of September 2019 from 14:00 to 16.30 at the Humanity Hub in the Hague. \nUniversal Health Coverage\, a target under Sustainable Development Goal 3\, is gaining global momentum. Many countries have adopted national UHC strategies and are restructuring their health system financing and priorities to achieve UHC. \nThe global momentum for UHC is picking up pace towards the High-Level Meeting at the UN General Assembly in September 2019\, where the global commitment to UHC will be galvanized through a political declaration. \nA key moment for civil society organizations and policymakers to strategize and answer questions such as: how can governments ensure that no one is left behind in UHC policies? Which specific areas within UHC should get more (or less) attention? What happens after the High Level Meeting\, and how can we ensure that governments are held accountable for their promises made in the declaration? \nMore information and a detailed program will be shared soon. \nPlaces are limited! RVSP before the 28th of August \n[av_button label=’More information and registration’ link=’manually\,https://share-netinternational.org/events-list/round-table-uhc/’ link_target=” size=’small’ position=’center’ label_display=” icon_select=’no’ icon=’ue800′ font=’entypo-fontello’ color=’theme-color’ custom_bg=’#444444′ custom_font=’#ffffff’ av_uid=” custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=”]

SUMMARY:Embassy Festival 2019
DESCRIPTION:With nearly seventy participating countries\, the two-day Embassy Festival will be bigger than ever this year. There isn’t an event in the world where so many embassies unite to present and celebrate culture. \nThanks to the collaborations with the embassies\, the Embassy Festival is able to present an authentic and worldly experience with four stages offering music (classical\, traditional and contemporary) and dance. There’s also an International Market present with many culinary and cultural discoveries to be made. The free festival will take place on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 September at the Lange Voorhout in The Hague. \nWalking around the Embassy Festival shows visitors how culture unites. An example of what’s to be expected: At the festival you will see stars shine and perform from Palestine (Faraj Suleiman)\, Australia (Anna Smith)\, Morocco (Mâalem Reda Stitou) and Israel (Boom Pam). Ambassadors roll up their sleeves and put on an apron to help prepare delicious meals from their home countries. Women from Bosnia and Herzegovina dancing dressed in traditional clothing. It’s not uncommon to find yourself dancing in a spontaneously organized South-African party and to then be swept away by several other countries that are celebrating their heritage on the International Market. \nYou can taste bites and drinks from all over the world. Cozonaci (Romania)\, Biko (Phillipines)\, Dolma (Azerbaijan)\, Banhm (Vietnam)\, Sirnica (Bosnia & Herzegovina)\, Khachapuri (Georgia) and Kürbiskernöl (Australia) are just some of the delicious treasures that can be tasted and discovered. Our youngest visitors will also be entertained at this family-friendly festival. At the Kids Compound or at one of the many pavilions inhabited by all the countries present. Children will have their own voyage of discovery to experience. By painting Nón Lá’s (Vietnamese conical hats)\, or by taking a picture with Joulupukki (Finland’s very own Santa Claus) or by getting a henna tattoo at the Saudi-Arabia stand. \nFACTS & FIGURES\nLast year\, the Embassy Festival attracted more than 60.000 visitors. The festival brings together the richness of nearly seventy participating countries and seduces its visitors to meet with each other\, to step outside the familiar and to indulge themselves in sea of culture. In The Hague – City of Peace and Justice\, The Embassy Festival proves that culture creates unity and causes amazement. \nPARTICIPATING COUNTRIES\nArmenia\, Australia\, Austria\, Azerbaijan\, Bangladesh\, Bosnia and Herzegovina\, Bolivia\, Brazil\, Bulgaria\, Canada\, Chile\, China\, Costa Rica\, Croatia\, Cuba\, Cyprus\, Czech Republic\, Denmark\, Dominican Republic\, Ecuador\, El Salvador\, Estonia\, Finland\, Georgia\, Ghana\, Guatemala\, Haiti\, Hungary\, Ireland\, India\, Israel\, Indonesia\, Japan\, Kenya\, Kosovo\, Kuwait\, Malaysia\, Mexico\, Mongolia\, Nepal\, Nigeria\, Norway\, Pakistan\, Palestine\, Peru\, Philippines\, Poland\, Republic of Korea\, Romania\, Russia\, Saudi Arabia\, Senegal\, Sint Maarten\, Slovakia\, Slovenia\, South Africa\, Sudan\, Sweden\, Switzerland\, Tanzania\, Thailand\, Tunisia\, Ukraine\, United Arab Emirates\, Uzbekistan\, Vietnam and Yemen.\n\n \n[av_button label=’More information’ link=’manually\,https://embassyfestival.com/’ link_target=’_blank’ size=’large’ position=’center’ label_display=” icon_select=’no’ icon=’ue800′ font=’entypo-fontello’ color=’theme-color’ custom_bg=’#444444′ custom_font=’#ffffff’ av_uid=” custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=”]

SUMMARY:Access to Modern Energy - Project kick-off
DESCRIPTION:Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and DCHI have joined forces to organise a kickoff webinar for the three Access to Modern Energy Projects \n  \nAccess to Modern Energy is increasingly recognized as an area of humanitarian concern. If communities affected by crises go without proper access to energy\, it becomes impossible for them to meet the basic needs of life. In fact\, if humanitarian organizations do not adequately address access to energy in their programmes\, they risk contributing to the very same problems they aim to solve. \nThe Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and DCHI have joined forces to organise an official kick-off and shared learnings webinar for the three Access to Modern Energy Projects: \nSudan: Lighting for Learning \nUganda: AMPERE \nEthiopia: Energy call Ethiopia \n  \nThe event and webinar will focus on summarizing the project’s value and purpose\, scope and learning agenda; and providing examples of how clean energy investment and self-reliance create a virtuous circle of beneficial change. \n  \nAgenda: \n1515-1530 : Walk-in & Registration \n1530-1545: Official kick-off for Access to Modern Energy Projects (DCHI/RVO) \n1545-1630: Access to Modern Energy projects and joint opportunities for learning \n1630-1645: Next steps \n1645-1700: Closing remarks \n1700-1800: Networking and drinks @ Humanity Hub \n  \nWe hope to see you there! \n  \n[av_button label=’More information and registration’ link=’manually\,https://www.eventbrite.nl/e/tickets-access-to-modern-energy-project-kick-off-69881352005′ link_target=’_blank’ size=’small’ position=’center’ label_display=” icon_select=’no’ icon=’ue800′ font=’entypo-fontello’ color=’theme-color’ custom_bg=’#444444′ custom_font=’#ffffff’ av_uid=” custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=”]

SUMMARY:From the Ground Up: Yemeni Women’s Participation in the Peace Process
DESCRIPTION:Yemen is going through a fifth year of conflict. In the news you do not hear much about the conflict and even less about the Yemeni who strive for reconstruction of their country. During this program\, they share their stories in short\, personal speeches\, so they can provide an important insight into the life that continues in Yemen\, and what the local needs and challenges are.  \nThe conflict in Yemen has created the one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. Since the start of the conflict\, four rounds of peace talks have been organized by the United Nations. It has always been said that the input of young people and women in the peace process is important. However\, in practice it appears that the ultimate influence of these groups is minimal\, while this is just as important for sustainable and inclusive peace. \nThe Yemeni who share their stories all work for organizations that work for women and young people in Yemen. You will hear stories about how life continues in Yemen and how they try to involve young people and women in the peace process. The stories provide insights into the initiatives they set up and what the biggest challenges and needs are. How can international policy makers and aid organizations offer the best help to fit these needs and challenges. \nThe program ends with a lunch and an exhibition. \n[av_button label=’Read More and Register!’ link=’manually\,https://humanityhouse.org/en/event/from-the-ground-up-the-perspective-of-yemeni-on-peace/’ link_target=” size=’large’ position=’center’ label_display=” icon_select=’no’ icon=’ue800′ font=’entypo-fontello’ color=’theme-color’ custom_bg=’#444444′ custom_font=’#ffffff’ av_uid=” custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=”]

SUMMARY:Peace\, Security and Climate Change: What Can Businesses Do to Be Part of the Solution?
DESCRIPTION:With the advent of delivering the Sustainable Development Goals agenda for 2030\, International Alert is seeking ways to engage and collaborate with the business sector operating in volatile environments. How can we work together so that the private sector can become a driving force for peace? \nPANEL:\nHans Bolscher\, Former Director at the Ministry of Justice\, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Economic Affairs\, Netherlands (chair)\nJessie Banfield\, Director of Programmes\, International Alert\nHugo G. von Meijenfeldt\, Sustainable Development Goals Coordinator\, Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs\nIain Watt\, Principal Climate Specialist\, Forum for the Future \nMore panel participants to be announced. SUMMARY:Future Session: Circular Economy
DESCRIPTION:Future Session: How the Circular Economy Can Generate Opportunities for Developing Cities \nJoin us and learn about Metabolic’s systems-thinking approach to cities and participate in an intervention game to devise potential circular solutions for a rapidly-expanding city in the developing world! \n  \nIn 2019\, The Spindle and the Hague Humanity Hub collaborate in organising a series of (almost) monthly inspirational working sessions for our mutual communities! In the next months\, we will dedicate three Future Sessions to exploring the future of cities and the significance of urban trends for development and development cooperation. The world is increasingly becoming more urban\, with Africa and Asia being the fastest urbanizing continents. Cities are growing in size\, and by 2030\, there will be 41 cities with more than 10 million inhabitants. During this Future Session Special\, we explore the challenges\, consequences and opportunities for you and your organisation. The sessions are high in energy and always involve an expert. \n  \nThe Netherlands is leading the way on the transition to a circular economy that is regenerative and waste-free by design. But how can this emerging economic system address the challenges facing fast-growing cities in the developing world? Join Tamara Streefland This link opens in a new tab\, Cities Lead at Amsterdam-based consultancy and thinktank Metabolic\, for a workshop exploring how the latest circular city methodologies could apply in a developing world context. \nAttend a rundown on Metabolic’s systems-thinking approach to working with cities\, and participate in an intervention game to devise potential circular solutions for a rapidly-expanding developing city. What opportunities can a circular approach deliver for urban centres in the developing world? What are the main barriers in the way of a transition? What key leverage points can we target to overcome these barriers? Register below to tackle these questions and more. \n  \n[av_button label=’More information and registration’ link=’manually\,https://thespindle.org/event/future-session-7-how-the-circular-economy-can-generate-opportunities-for-developing-cities/’ link_target=” size=’small’ position=’center’ label_display=” icon_select=’no’ icon=’ue800′ font=’entypo-fontello’ color=’theme-color’ custom_bg=’#444444′ custom_font=’#ffffff’ av_uid=” custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=”] \n  \n\nThis will be the second Future Session in a row of three inspirational and interactive meet-ups revolving around the future of cities and its significance for development and development cooperation. The other Future Sessions in this thematic series are: \n\nTuesday\, August 27: Economic Perspectives on Urban Futures and Resilience\, with Paula Nagler (IHS);\nTuesday\, October 29: Urban Resilience\, with Cordaid and AMS Institute – save the date!\n\n

SUMMARY:Dispatches from the Frontlines of Humanity
DESCRIPTION:The book presentation and kickoff already took place\, but the photography exhibition of the photojournalist Jure Eržen can be seen at the Humanity Hub until 17 October. If you would like to visit the exhibition\, please let us know at info@humanityhub.net. \n  \n\nThe Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia kindly invites you to a book presentation by the award-winning journalist and war correspondent \nBoštjan Videmšek – “Dispatches from the Frontlines of Humanity”\, A Book of Reportage \nThe conversation will be moderated by Mr Peter Heintze\, coordinator of KUNO – Platform for Humanitarian Knowledge Exchange in the Netherlands. \nBoštjan Videmšek has reported from all major conflicts in last 20 years. \nHis book Dispatches from the Frontline of Humanity is an in-depth reportage on the global refugee crisis and the causes behind it.The book was recently published in English by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. \nThe event will be accompanied by the opening of a photography exhibition of the photojournalist Jure Eržen (the exhibition will run until 17 October). \n  \nPlease register here before 18 September 2019: \n  \n[av_button label=’Registration’ link=’manually\,https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dispatches-from-the-frontlines-of-humanity-book-presentation-exhibition-registration-71622674347′ link_target=’_blank’ size=’small’ position=’center’ label_display=” icon_select=’no’ icon=’ue800′ font=’entypo-fontello’ color=’theme-color’ custom_bg=’#444444′ custom_font=’#ffffff’ av_uid=” custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=”] \n  \nDispatches from the Frontlines of Humanity is an in-depth reportage on some of the most defining issues of our time\, namely the global refugee crisis\, the conflicts displacing these masses of humanity\, and the causes behind them. It is also an ode to the vanishing art of the long-form feature or reportage\, which is disappearing because many media organisations can no longer afford it\, or are unwilling to pay for this kind of time-consuming\, on-the-ground journalism. \n This book showcases a keen eye for the human story and a profound commitment to the human family. By telling the stories\, it helps put a human face on the suffering that is too often viewed statistically and quantitatively. \nBoštjan Videmšek is an award-winning Slovenian journalist\, war correspondent\, and playwright. He is the author of several books about wars\, conflicts\, migration\, refugees\, the Arab Spring\, and the Greek financial crisis\, including 21st Century Conflicts: Remnants of War(s). His articles and stories have been published in The New York Times\, Politico\, Le Figaro\, Der Spiegel\, Aftenposten\, El Periodico\, Sydney Morning Herald\, Middle East Eye\, and Atlantic Post\, among others. He has reported from all major conflicts in last 20 years\, including those in Iraq\, Afghanistan\, Syria\, Darfur\, South Sudan\, Pakistan\, Gaza\, Libya\, Somalia\, and Kosovo. DESCRIPTION:Lunch and Learn : Fundraising Revisited – The hidden treasure(s) in our existing set up\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn about holistic and SMART fundraising in this training with fundraising expert Somaye Dehban. \nHow often has your organization been solely (or up to 80%) dependent on one or two donors? How often have you wished to have had “core funding” for your organization? \nFundraising is an ongoing activity within any organization to ensure an uninterrupted stream of funds for your programs. The various sources of funding can be categorized in 4 distinctive sets: institutions\, foundations\, companies and individuals. It’s of crucial importance to keep a balanced combination of all these sources to prevent dependence on one donor. Moreover\, creatively identifying new sources and building up on the old sources\, ensures the sustainability of your funding streams. \nIn this training\, with Somaye Dehban\, strategic connector and founder of Your Funding Network\, we delve into the necessary combination of all 4 categories of funding sources as well as the possibilities to walk away from “subsidy-trap”. Moreover\, we will look into how and where you are leaving money on the table from your existing sources. \nMembers of The Hague Humanity Hub get 50% off the admission.
