SUMMARY:European Social Innovation Competition - Launch Series: Beyond Traditional Skills
DESCRIPTION:Beyond Traditional Skills: boosting creativity and leadership for a systemic social change with Daniela Papi-Thornton. \n\n\n\nThis webinar will kick-off the 2021 Competition’s Launch Webinars series\, providing a fresh perspective on skills to our audience. Attendees will get a deep insight into non-traditional skills – ie. competencies that go beyond traditional cognitive skills (e.g. creative\, relational\, systems thinking skills\, etc.) – and new mindsets for a new idea of economy and society. \n\n\n\nThe webinar seeks to convey to the participants the importance of integrating and fostering non-traditional skills and mindsets when designing and developing innovative training solutions. The audience will understand how such skills are more and more important to cope with complexity and foster resilience in a time of fast-changing educational needs. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\nDaniela Papi-Thornton \n\n\n\nDaniela Papi-Thornton is an educator whose work focuses on systems-led leadership. Daniela has served as a Lecturer at Yale School of Management\, Watson Institute\, and Oxford’s Saïd Business School where she was also the Deputy Director of the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship. Her report and subsequent article\, Tackling Heropreneurship\, have been widely referenced. From that research she designed a tool called the Impact Gaps Canvas\, used at universities around the world. At Oxford she launched educational programming designed to help incorporate systems thinking into social entrepreneurship education\, including Map the System\, a contest now running at ~40 global institutions. Daniela’s work in education design builds upon six years of emerging market entrepreneurial experience in Cambodia\, running a hybrid social enterprise. She co-authored a book\, Learning Service\, and her TEDx talk on Reclaiming Social Entrepreneurship and Elevating Impact talk highlight some of her thinking \n\n\n\nChristian Vietz \n\n\n\nCompetition Support @The European Social Innovation Compeition (Euclid Network) \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:World Justice Challenge 2021 Regional Showcase: Europe\, North America and Central Asia
DESCRIPTION:The World Justice Challenge 2021: Advancing the Rule of Law in a Time of Crisis is a global competition to identify\, recognize\, and promote good accountable governance practices and high-impact projects and policies that protect and advance the rule of law in this time of unprecedented crisis. \n\n\n\nThis year\, the World Justice Project received over 425 submissions from 114 countries. From these 425 submissions\, 30 finalists have been selected to take part in an online regional showcase event. \n\n\n\nThis event will feature an assessment of the efforts underway in countries in Europe\, North America and Central Asia to “build back better” from the challenges posed by COVID-19. This portion of the program will be led by WJP’s partners for the region\, the Municipality of The Hague and The Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law\, and will focus on four areas—access to justice for all\, accountable governance\, fundamental rights and non-discrimination\, and anti-corruption and open government.  \n\n\n\nThe event will also give the finalists from the region an opportunity to present their projects and share key insights into their objectives and impact as a basis to select the six winners of the World Justice Challenge 2021. After the presentations\, participants will be invited to engage in a Q&A session with finalists in different breakout rooms. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:A Rule of Law Based Approach to Sustainable Economic Recovery for Least Developed Countries
DESCRIPTION:A Rule of Law Based Approach to Sustainable Economic Recovery for Least Developed Countries: The contribution of ISP/LDCs as a dedicated public-private partnership for investment capacity development in the least developed countries \n\n\n\nThe impact of the global crisis triggered by COVID-19 is being felt most severely by LDCs and by the most vulnerable people within them.  It is becoming critical to develop new solutions to unlock LDCs’ capacity to create an enabling environment to attract FDI and access the resource flows required to finance their recovery efforts. Against the assessment by the LDCs of the path to their socio-economic recovery in preparation for the 2022 DOHA Conference\, this Side Event will review the initial experience in implementing IDLO’s Investment Support Programme for the Least Developed Countries (ISP/LDCs)—a dedicated public-private partnership geared to supporting LDCs in managing and sustaining FDI. Discussions will focus on the distinctive features of the Programme and their contribution to innovation and enhanced impact in the international effort to support LDCs’ capacity development and help level the playing field in investment negotiations and the settlement of commercial disputes. \n\n\n\nThe Side Event focuses on IDLO’s Investment Support Programme for Least Developed Countries (ISP/LDCs) This link opens in a new tab as a public-private partnership that seeks to make distinctive contribution to the international efforts to help accelerate LDCs’ recovery from COVID-19 and to advance their sustainable development goals. \n\n\n\nISP/LDCs provides\, at no cost to beneficiaries\, legal and technical advice and assistance\, as well as complementary capacity-building\, to both governments and eligible private sector entities in LDCs on investment-related matters\, including investment negotiations and dispute settlements. Such assistance is provided by harnessing the services of lawyers and experts who provide support to the beneficiaries on a “pro bono” or reduced fee basis. \n\n\n\nISP/LDCs was jointly designed by the UN Office of the High Representative for Least Developed Countries\, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States and IDLO\, with support from the Government of Italy. It became fully operational in 2019\, thanks to funding from the European Union and a contribution from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. Since then\, the Programme has delivered investment-related technical support to a wide range of countries. This included the provision of strategic assistance to the Government of The Gambia in an investor-state arbitration with a foreign investor This link opens in a new tab\, which facilitated the achievement of an out-of-court settlement. The Programme moreover provides support in Malawi\, Liberia and Ethiopia\, with new entry-points for assistance being discussed in Uganda\, Mozambique and LDCs in the Pacific Region. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Presenting the new IASC Operational Guidance on Data Responsibility in Humanitarian Action
DESCRIPTION:Data responsibility in humanitarian action is the safe\, ethical and effective management of personal and non-personal data for operational response. It is a critical issue for the humanitarian system to address and the stakes are high. In February 2021\, the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) published new Operational Guidance on Data Responsibility in Humanitarian Action This link opens in a new tab. The Operational Guidance\, which is a first\, will ensure concrete steps for data responsibility in all phases of humanitarian action. It is intended to help humanitarian staff\, organizations\, and their partners practice data responsibility in different response contexts. It is the result of an inclusive and consultative process involving more than 250 stakeholders from the humanitarian sector and co-led by the International Organization for Migration (IOM)\, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)\, and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Centre for Humanitarian Data. \n\n\n\nIn this Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks (HNPW) briefing session\, representatives from the Danish Refugee Council\, IOM\, OCHA\, and UNHCR will present the Operational Guidance and share examples of how it is already being adopted in different response contexts. The goal of the session is to raise awareness of the Operational Guidance and offer concrete recommendations for its use by a wide range of actors to advance data responsibility. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:[Online Workshop] Movies that Matter & the Asser Institute present: the Global Justice Cinema Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Documentary film is a very powerful medium in the field of global justice. It can document human rights violations\, uncover abuses of power\, communicate a strong message of solidarity and call for action. Documentary filmmaking\, however\, is never just a ‘neutral’ registration of reality. \n\n\n\nThe Global Justice Cinema workshop challenges participant to critically watch\, assess and discuss what these films communicate and how this is achieved. You will do this in a truly unique setting. For this workshop\, the Asser Institute and VU Amsterdam annually join forces with human rights film festival Movies that Matter. \n\n\n\nThe workshop offers the best of both worlds: you will get great lectures in film and international justice by professors at the Asser Institute and VU. And you get to see the latest international rights films\, plus the chance to meet filmmakers and activists at the online Movies that Matter Festival. \n\n\n\nThe workshop is connected to the Camera Justitia programme on law and justice at the Movies that Matter Festival. \n\n\n\nThe entire program (including film screenings) takes place online.   \n\n\n\nFor whom?\n\n\n\nNo specific background in film and/or international justice is required. We welcome professionals and students in the areas of e.g. film\, international law\, human rights\, communication\, media\, art\, and international politics. \n\n\n\nIn the workshop\, we will watch and discuss two remarkable films from the Camera Justitia selection: \n\n\n\nColombia in My Arms This link opens in a new tab (Jenni Kivisto\, Jussi Rastas) is a visually strong documentary about Colombia after the peace agreement between the government and the FARC guerrillas. Will the fragile peace deal survive the distrust and rancour built up by decades of war? Colombia in My Arms tells the story from different perspectives: guerrillas in the woods\, preparing to hand in their weapons and trying to accept that their fight will be a political one from now on\, the ‘old money’ elites\, who shudder at the thought of FARC gaining power\, the political establishment\, cynically exploiting tensions in society for their own political gain. And finally\, the workers on the cocoa fields who sum up the situation: ‘The chaos starts at the top\, not at the bottom’.  \n\n\n\nPresident This link opens in a new tab (Camilla Nielsson) is a riveting account of the Zimbabwean 2018 presidential elections from inside the campaign of opposition candidate Nelson Chamisa – and its unbelievable aftermath. Zimbabwe is at a crossroads when charismatic Chamisa challenges ruling party ZANU-PF. But will the elections be fair? When the ballots are cast on election night\, it turns out the real battle has just begun. A fly-on-the-wall account of Chamisa’s campaign\, combined with hair-raising battleground reporting and a legal thriller about the fight for the soul of democracy. \n\n\n\nTentative programme\n\n\n\n22 April\, Thursday (CET)09:45 – Welcome and Introductions10:15 – Lecture Conceptions of justice in documentary film – Prof. Wouter Werner11:00 – Break11:15 – Lecture Thinking visually about International Politics – Dr Francesco Ragazzi12:15 – Lunch break13:15 – Screening film Colombia in my Arms (Jenni Kivisto and Jussi Rastas)14:45 – Discussion of the film with makers/experts16:00 – Camera Justitia Masterclass (speaker tba)Optional evening programme Movies that Matter festival23 April\, Friday (CET)09:00 – Welcome day 209:15 – Lecture Storytelling through editing – Dr Sofia Stolk10:00 – Break10:15 – Screening President (Camilla Nielsson)12:15 – Q&A with filmmaker/expert13:15 – Lunch break14:15 – Lecture on impact and outreach by Movies that Matter15:15 – Discussion session16:00 – Evaluation16:30 – Online farewell drinksOptional evening programme Movies that Matter festival \n\n\n\nAfter the successful completion of this workshop\, you will receive a professional certificate from the T.M.C. SUMMARY:Building a Transatlantic Coalition for Climate Action on Water and Security Challenges in Hotspot Countries of Risk
DESCRIPTION:The “Water\, Peace and Security partnership”\, in collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs\, organizes the 11th meeting of the series “The Hague Roundtable on Climate and Security”. \n\n\n\n“Earth Day 2021”\, on Thursday April 22\, represents an opportunity to challenge world leaders to act more decisively on climate change for what it truly is: a pressing global security threat to everyone\, particularly the most vulnerable people and places. Increased cooperation is especially urgent in hotspot regions where water scarcity and climate impacts risk destabilizing communities or entire countries. Climate security issues play out through the water cycle\, as water access and quality are further deteriorating in many of these areas. \n\n\n\nThe panelists and participants of this meeting will assess the political momentum and opportunity of forming a transatlantic coalition focused on addressing the security dimension in the climate adaptation action agenda\, specifically on the impacts of water-intensive projects in regions of risk – with an examination of the potential geopolitical impacts and priorities of the new U.S. Government Administration and the EU. \n\n\n\nKeynote speaker\n\n\n\nCarola van Rijnsoever\, Director\, Inclusive Green Growth\, Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs\n\n\n\nModerator\n\n\n\nHenk Ovink\, Netherlands Special Envoy for International Water Affairs\n\n\n\nPanelists\n\n\n\nBenedetta Berti\, Head of Policy Planning\, NATO Office of the Secretary GeneralSharon Burke\, Senior Advisor\, International Security Program\, New AmericaTom Middendorp\, Chair\, International Military Council on Climate and SecurityHinrich Thoelken\, Climate Envoy\, Germany Federal Foreign Office (tbc)\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:The Essence and Effects of Ethical Communication and Fundraising
DESCRIPTION:Value-driven Engagement and Fundraising\n\n\n\nOn Friday April 23rd\, from 10.00-11.30 a.m.\, the Expertise Centre Humanitarian Communication (HuCom) and Fundraising & Strategy International (efesai) will share their academic and practical knowledge. They will talk you through the most recent studies and insights and tell you about: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe importance of ethical humanitarian communication – Wouter Oomen (PhD candidate at Utrecht University and co-director of HuCom)\n\n\n\n\n\nStorytelling for Social Change & Prosocial Crowdfunding –  Asma Naimi (PhD candidate at Esade Institute for Social Innovation & Senior Associate of efesai)\n\n\n\n\nFor many NGOs and other social organizations\, fundraising is tantamount to raising as much money as possible and connecting as many donors as possible. But what is the impact of this on the mission of the organization? And what is the effect of the role assigned to the donor\, the target group and\, ultimately\, the objective in communication and fundraising? \n\n\n\nIf we would include the objectives of the organization for fundraising and communication\, this could lead to change being desirable. However\, it is often mistakenly thought that this can jeopardize the results. \n\n\n\nDuring this one and a half hour seminar we will discuss the importance\, effects and possibilities of ethical communication and impact-oriented fundraising. We also provide insight into what it takes to scrutinize the communication of your organization and to provide your organization with a healthy impact-oriented fundraising mix. \n\n\n\nSo:  \n\n\n\n\nAs Head of Fundraising\, Communication and/or Marketing\, are you curious about how you can contribute to the impact of your organization in addition to generating income or creating supporters? Do you know that the work of your department is about so much more than money and numbers? \n\n\n\nAre you in the board and management of a mission-driven organization and do you want to know what it takes to grow your organization towards greater impact\, but are you also responsible for a healthy “company”? \n\n\n\nAre you curious about what it means to also focus your fundraising and communication on the broader impact of your mission-driven organization?  \n\n\n\n\nPractical information \n\n\n\nFormat: online knowledge seminar  \n\n\n\nDate: April 23\, 2021  \n\n\n\nTime: 10.00 am – 11.30 am  \n\n\n\nParticipation: free of charge  \n\n\n\nThis seminar marks the start of a collaboration between Fundraising & Strategy International (efesai) and the Expertise Centre Humanitarian Communication (HuCom)\, two organizations that focus on the importance of (change in) communication and fundraising among NGOs and other civil society organizations. The seminar also marks the launch of HuCom\, which has recently been given a new board and management.  \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

General Dallaire will emphasize the importance of lifelong learning and cross-fertilization of real-life experience and academic knowledge. The presentation is meant for students\, and practitioners and policy makers\, especially those being actively involved in academic (doctoral) research. \n\n\n\nOn Roméo Dallaire\n\n\n\nGeneral Roméo Dallaire is founder of the Dallaire Institute for Children\, Peace\, and Security\, a global partnership with the mission to end the recruitment and use of child soldiers.A celebrated advocate for human rights\, General Dallaire is also a respected author\, government and UN advisor\, and former Canadian Senator. Throughout his distinguished military career\, General Dallaire served most notably as Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda during the 1994 genocide. He continues to bring international attention to situations too-often ignored\, whether the prevention of mass atrocities\, the struggle that he and many other military veterans face with post-traumatic stress disorder\, or the recruitment and use of children as weapons of war.  \n\n\n\nOn ISGA and the FGGA Honours Class\n\n\n\nThe Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) focuses on multidisciplinary research and education within the international scientific field of security studies. The Institute analyses and studies issues in a coherent way from their local transnational\, and global impact. ISGA operates from The Hague\, the third major city of the Netherlands\, centre of national governance and International City of Peace\, Justice and Security. ISGA runs the annual Honours Class on “A better world is possible” – allowing the best 25 students across all faculties to interact with thought leaders and security practitioners in order to come up with innovative policy solutions.  \n\n\n\nOn Dual PhD Centre\n\n\n\nThe Dual PhD Centre offers a Dual PhD programme that enables professionals to combine work and PhD research. They devote some of the working hours to PhD research on a theme that relates to their profession. The Centre provides the intensive supervision that is needed to succeed. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Private sector engagement in humanitarian-development-peace collaboration
DESCRIPTION:The UN emphasizes the need to bridge the gap between humanitarian\, development and peace silos and advocates for closer collaboration between the different actors. It calls for shared analysis\, collective priority setting\, as well as joined up planning and programming with the overall aim of reducing humanitarian need\, risk and vulnerability. As part of the communities in which they operate\, businesses have an innate interest to support before\, during and after crises\, often seamlessly moving across humanitarian\, development and peacebuilding responses. This session will discuss how and when do humanitarian\, development and peace practitioners come together with private sector entities to leverage their comparative advantages. It will make a strong case that private sector actors should be encouraged to actively participate in the different elements of the nexus approach. Through an interactive panel discussion\, speakers will highlight concrete examples of how strengthened collaboration and coordination with and among the private sector have benefitted vulnerable people. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Driving Systems Change - Corporate Leadership for the SDGs
DESCRIPTION:The world is facing fundamental and interrelated systemic challenges\, including the COVID-19 pandemic as well as environmental and social crises and issues. Those issues cannot be solved by business as usual. Fortunately\, there is a framework that can help navigate efforts to deal with them: the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Right now\, the SDGs are the best agenda available to share ambitions and measure progress towards the achievement of a large number of common goals. \n\n\n\nThe private sector’s active involvement is vital in this ambition. But progress is too slow – not because of a lack of intentions\, but because of the serious gap in developing advanced strategies in realising the SDGs. It’s difficult to integrate SDGs in core business. So\, can corporate leaders step up to the challenge and drive systems change? \n\n\n\nWe think it is possible – and your contribution is important. Join our free\, online conference in which we will exchange experiences\, showcase tools and concepts\, and learn from leading thinkers and experts. Speakers include prof. Jeffrey Sachs This link opens in a new tab (Columbia University)\, Peter Bakker This link opens in a new tab (President & CEO of the WBCSD)\, prof. Mette Morsing This link opens in a new tab (Head of PRME of UN Global Compact)\, Paul Polman This link opens in a new tab (Co-Founder of IMAGINE)\, Kailash Satyarthi This link opens in a new tab (Nobel Peace Laureate 2014)\, and prof. Rob van Tulder This link opens in a new tab(Rotterdam School of Management & Academic Director of the Partnerships Resource Centre). You can find the schedule below. \n\n\n\nYou can register for the event at the right side of your screen. The email address and password will also be needed to log in on the day of the conference. You will receive a confirmation email shortly after registration (please note that the email might be in your spam folder). \n\n\n\nAlthough participation is free\, we kindly ask you to attend the event once you have registered. SUMMARY:From Digital Promise to Frontline Practice: New and Emerging Technologies in Humanitarian Action
DESCRIPTION:In its report on new and emerging technologies in humanitarian action\, OCHA reviews how technologies ranging from artificial intelligence to unmanned aerial vehicles\, biometrics and the internet of things can enable earlier\, faster and potentially more effective humanitarian action. It also examines the complex challenges and risks these technologies present in humanitarian settings\, from adequate data\, data protection and privacy to digital inequality\, sustainable investments and conflicts of interest in public-private-partnerships. \n\n\n\nThe report identifies several enablers and guardrails\, including local front-line leadership and equitable access to technology; bottom-up approaches that put people at the centre; a digitally literate cadre of humanitarians and adequate\, representative data; ambitious and sustainable coalitions across sectors; governance that keeps pace with technology; and investments that mirror ambition. \n\n\n\nDuring this event\, co-hosted by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and OCHA\, speakers will discuss the promises and pitfalls of new technologies\, and how to realize the ‘digital promise’ for the humanitarian sector. \n\n\n\nFeatured speakers include:\n\n\n\nMark Lowcock\, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator\, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian AffairsBirgitta Tazelaar\, Deputy Director-General for International Cooperation\, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the NetherlandsMaria Francesca Spatolisano\, Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination and Inter-Agency Affairs and Officer in Charge of the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on TechnologyJohn Frank\, Vice President for UN Affairs\, MicrosoftCindy Issac\, Deputy Head of Office\, Somalia\, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

This diverse community of professionals is working every day towards innovating their sectors\, from humanitarian action and justice innovation to peacebuilding and education.  \n\n\n\nThis time around the spotlight is on Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA)\, a non-profit\, non-partisan international network of approximately 1\,100 legislators in over 130 elected parliaments around the globe\, which aims to promote peace\, democracy\, the rule of law\, human rights\, gender equality and population issues through the network of its parliamentary members.  \n\n\n\nJoin us virtually to learn more about how PGA seeks to sensitize\, build technical and legal capacity\, and strengthen the political will of parliamentarians to take concrete initiatives and legislative actions to achieve results on PGA’s campaign objectives through a peer-to-peer methodology\, country-by-country strategy\, and the convening of national and regional parliamentary workshops. \n\n\n\nAbout PGA\n\n\n\nPGA counts with three programmatic areas and ten campaigns:  \n\n\n\n(i) International Law and Human Rights Programme (a) Campaign for the Universality and Effectiveness of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) System; (b) Campaign for the Abolition of the Death Penalty; (c) Campaign for the Protection of the Oceans and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14) \n\n\n\n(ii) Gender\, Equality and Inclusion: (a) Campaign to End Child\, Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM); (b) Campaign against Discrimination based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) \n\n\n\n(iii) International Peace and Security: (a) Biological Security and Health Campaign; (b) Campaign to Address the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and to Promote the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT); (c) Campaign to Promote Nuclear and Radiological Security and (d) Campaign in Support of the Negotiation of a Treaty Prohibiting Fully Autonomous Weapons (FAWs) + the Core Campaign on Democratic Renewal and Human Rights. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCampaign for the Universality and Effectiveness of System of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).\n\n\n\nFrederika Schweighoferova will take the time to talk us through PGA’s Rome Statute campaign. Since September 1998\, PGA progressively launched a Campaign for the Universality and Effectiveness of System of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).  The Campaign intends to promote a universal culture of upholding the Rule of Law\, human rights and human dignity by fighting impunity for the commission of genocide\, war crimes\, crimes against humanity and the crime of aggression\, the most serious crimes of concern to the international community as a whole. These efforts are in line with UN Sustainable Development Goal 16: “To promote just\, peaceful and inclusive societies”\, particularly Target 16.3 which refers to promoting the rule of law at the national and international levels and ensure equal access to justice for all.  To adapt the campaign’s efforts to the needs of specific countries\, group of countries or regions\, the PGA Secretariat works with members of parliament at national\, regional and international level  in approximately 40 target countries. \n\n\n\nWhat to expect \n\n\n\nThe Open House event will last about 45 minutes with an overview of the organization and a focus on specific projects. It will also give you ample opportunity to interact with the speakers and experts from the organization. The online Open House will be facilitated on Zoom.  \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Using the Sphere Standards in Urban Settings
DESCRIPTION:Applying humanitarian standards in urban settings has been a challenge for a long time. The recent blast in the harbor of Beirut is yet another example. The urban context has consequences for the disaster management: communities are fluid and complex\, with perhaps hidden groups (refugees\, IDPs)\, great socio-economic differences and probably a big amount of first responders\, self-organization and self-recovery. \n\n\n\nTrainer: Aninia Nadig\, Policy and Practice Manager of Sphere. \n\n\n\nStarting point for this training will be the recently updated guide ‘Using the Sphere Standards in Urban Settings’\, which can be found here. \n\n\n\nPrimary target groups for the training are  professionals working in needs assessment\, programme design and management of humanitarian response (head quarters and country offices). The training may also be useful for a wider range of staff\, including government officials and humanitarian personnel who find themselves confronted for the first time with a humanitarian crisis in urban areas. \n\n\n\nLearning goals of the training: \n\n\n\nAn introduction in the specific context of urban disaster repossessHow to apply the Sphere Standard in urban contextsPreparedness: how can you prepare as an INGO to meet CHS and Sphere standards in urban disaster responses.\n\n\n\nThis training is a pilot offered to the constituency of KUNO. \n\n\n\nPrior registration is required. SUMMARY:Transformative Methodologies workshop
DESCRIPTION:This online workshop will go beyond the simplistic view of research objectives alone bringing about social transformation\, and engage with the research process itself. \n\n\n\nOn transformative methodologies\n\n\n\nTransformative methodologies go beyond the simplistic view of research objectives alone bringing about social transformation\, and engage with the research process itself. Transformative methodologies are inherently reflexive and critical\, and sharply focused on the power relations in the research process. \n\n\n\nIt focuses on answering several critical questions\, including:  \n\n\n\nWho wants transformative changes?Who brings about these changes? What are the intersectional implications of these changes? \n\n\n\nWhy this workshop?\n\n\n\nWith a conversation on transformative methodologies we seek to address these problematic assumptions and practices.  \n\n\n\nA critical and forward-looking synthesis of existing transformative research methodologies can serve as a key step in the development of methodologies and practices towards a more systematic\, ISS-wide approach to research for social transformation. \n\n\n\nWorkshop details\n\n\n\nWe will gather on 11 May 2021 to synthesize and share our experiences and thoughts on transformative research methodologies. The key objective is to engage in a critical dialogue by discussing ways to further our application of transformative methodologies. \n\n\n\nFormat\n\n\n\n2 sessions (morning and afternoon) \n\n\n\nMorning session (10:00-12:00): Sharing and discovering how ISS researchers have applied transformative methodologies \n\n\n\nAfternoon session (14:00-16:00): Discussing ethical and other concerns\, and future applications \n\n\n\nGet involved\n\n\n\nWe want to learn from you and enable you to inspire others\, so we invite you to share your work or ideas. Think with us about creative ways to showcase your work or ideas in our virtual gallery\, e.g.\, in a short videoclip\, images\, art or recorded interviews. People from all over will be able to access and engage with your presentation. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Communication Coffee P2P: Shifting Perspectives - a Masterclass in storytelling for development
DESCRIPTION:Stories have the potential to be extremely effective. They have the power to alter how we perceive our surroundings\, interact with one another\, and persuade us. The viewer is able to shift perspectives and challenge their own way of thinking by identifying with the characters. Because of this ability to empathize with story characters\, story is one of the most powerful ways to change belief and behavior. When it comes to changing people’s minds about contentious political or social issues\, stories have been shown to be the most effective. This session will explore how you can tell better stories to reach your audience and shift them through emotion. \n\n\n\nThe Media Development Collective is devoted to the transformative power of stories. We recognize (digital) media’s potential as a new frontier for knowledge transfer and attitude shaping. We believe in the power of collectives; “people working together to effect change.” The Media Development Collective is a new\, collaborative consultancy and training organization focused on the media\, civil society\, and for-good sectors. We have years of hands-on experience in the media and international development sectors\, and we have worked in over 30 countries around the world. We provide media training\, coaching\, and assistance with the implementation of media campaigns and programs. Professionals and subject matter experts in our network\, as well as those who have taken part in our organizational trainings and collaborative programs\, are part of our “collective.” We work in the traditional media development space as well as the media for development space. We foster good journalism and assist those who fill journalism’s gaps in contexts where it is restricted. We create interactive trainings and work with partners to build behavior change campaigns. Our “media for” approach aims to mobilize civil society by training them in strategic communications – which help amplify their messages by using the right message\, in the right channel\, at the right time. \n\n\n\nSession Leads\n\n\n\nJanet H. Anderson works a journalist and podcaster on a wide range of human rights issues. She also trains NGOs and campaigners in engagement and persuasive storytelling for impact. For the past 5 years Janet has lead innovative Social Change Campaigning courses globally. Trained by the BBC\, she has worked for a wide range of media development NGOs\, broadcasters and content producers across Europe and Africa.  \n\n\n\nBrandon Oelofse is the founder of Media Development Collective\, a training\, and consultancy company focused on strategic communications for the civil society sector. He’s an award-winning screenwriter and filmmaker and his work has been represented at numerous festivals\, including the Cannes festival and the Oscar. With MDC he has been leading training on engagement from civil society to provide an alternative\, counter-narrative communication training which particular emphasis on digital (de)radicalization\, Islamic and far-right extremism in the Middle East and Eastern and Central Europe.  \n\n\n\nIf you’d like to participate\, please email programming@humanityhub.net. \n\n\n\nNote: This event is for Hub members only.
