DESCRIPTION:Organised together with the Spanish Ministry of Transport\, Mobility\, and Urban Agenda (MITMA)\, this webinar will take place on 14 January 2021. It will form part of the EUKN ‘Thinking Beyond the Crisis’ series\, which explores the urban impacts of and responses to the coronavirus outbreak in EUKN member countries.  \n\n\n\nGiven their share of the global population\, cities have been majorly hit\, suffering from the social\, infrastructural\, and economic crisis set in motion by the pandemic. On the flipside of the coin\, cities are also best placed to act and rethink their approach to urban space on the road to recovery. The webinar will look into how urban areas have acted as both implementation arenas of nation-wide measures and as laboratories for devising innovative strategies. The goal is to offer a meaningful platform to share experiences and reflect on urban strategies tackling different dimensions of urban health in light of the pandemic.In the first part\, the webinar will provide a European take on the issue of ‘health and the city’ during and after COVID-19\, showcasing strategies from Spanish and other EU cities. In the second part\, participants will be invited to interactive thematic discussions. DESCRIPTION:The OCHA Centre for Humanitarian Data\, in partnership with the European Commission Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO)\, are pleased to convene this high-level event on Data Responsibility in Humanitarian Action. \n\n\n\nData responsibility — the safe\, ethical\, and effective management of data — is a critical issue for humanitarians. The stakes are high: data can enable more effective and efficient humanitarian response\, but as organizations process increasingly large volumes of data\, they face more complex challenges. Ensuring we ‘do no harm’ while maximizing the benefits of data requires collective action that extends across the humanitarian system. This is especially relevant in light of the COVID-19 pandemic\, which has exacerbated existing humanitarian emergencies around the world and increased the sector’s reliance on digital technologies and data. \n\n\n\nOver the last two years\, OCHA and ECHO have partnered to increase trust and cooperation within the humanitarian data ecosystem. DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE MINE MARK FOUNDATION \n\n\n\n​The Mine Mark Foundation is a Mine Risk Education initiative which aims to protect children living in conflict zones from the harm of landmines and other explosive remnants of war. \n\n\n\n​Mine Mark’s mission is reducing the number of casualties from explosive remnants of war by providing free and state-of-the-art Mine Risk Education to children living in contaminated areas. \n\n\n\nOUR PLAYFUL AND EFFECTIVE METHOD \n\n\n\nMine Mark adapted the UNMAS guidelines on how to survive in landmine-contaminated areas into cartoons and games. Their innovative translation equips children with life-saving information that are appealing and easy to understand. This ensures that Mine Mark’s approach to Mine Risk Education is child-centered and provides the children with the right tools to identify landmines and warning signs. \n\n\n\nThe Mine Mark Foundation implements board games\, cartoons and educational material in an effort to raise awareness\, create risk sensibility and enable safer living conditions in contaminated regions. \n\n\n\nBesides physical learning tools\, the Mine Mark Foundation is developing an online platform which will enable to publish online material and educational games. This platform combines e-learning and educational video games and it will enable a broader and faster distribution of Mine Risk Education to \n\n\n\nchildren living in different conflict areas. \n\n\n\nAN EXHIBITION TO SHOW CHILDREN’S PERSPECTIVE \n\n\n\nIn 2020\, children accounted for 54% of all civilian land mine casualties\, representing a 12% increase over the past two reporting years. In an effort to raise awareness about landmine contamination and casualties\, Mine Mark is organising an online exhibition showcasing drawings by children living in landmine contaminated areas and contrasting them with drawings done by children raised in peaceful\, unaffected countries. \n\n\n\nThe children were asked to draw images of “Peace & Dreams” to give space to their experiences and the impact that conflict had on their lives and aspirations. \n\n\n\nIn this online exhibition\, the visitors will admire artworks of children from local schools of Azerbaijan and Ukraine. While this technology has many benefits such as simplifying complex data and making daily tasks easier\, it also has dangerous implications. How and why does the rise of AI threaten the rule of law and what kind of regulatory frameworks are needed to manage this omnipresent technology? Professor Andrew Murray will address these questions and more at the online T.M.C. Asser Sixth Annual Lecture on 26 November at 16.00 CET. \n\n\n\nProf. Murray is a leading thinker on information technology law and regulation\, who focuses on regulatory design within Cyberspace and on the protection and the promotion of Human Rights within the digital environment. He is a Professor of Law and Deputy Head of the Department of Law at the London School of Economics where he researches and teaches in the fields of Internet and new media law\, including the laws of digital surveillance and digital privacy. In 2018/19 prof. Murray was the specialist advisor to the British House of Lords Communications Committee inquiry ‘Regulating in a Digital World’.

The CoP will be facilitated by The Spindle\, the Partos innovation platform.\n\n\n\nThis CoP will seek to engage with various stages of power imbalances within current development partnerships\, and runs parallel to the new Strategic Partnership (SP) programmes that are financed as part of the Subsidy Framework of the Strengthening of Civil Society policy of the Ministry (2021-2025). Together with partner organisations\, we will reflect on the challenges in the practice of shifting the power. What innovative solutions can be found to address this issue of power imbalance\, and what resources are already available on this topic? \n\n\n\nThis approach provides huge opportunities for learning that will benefit not only the Strategic Partnerships\, but also other partnerships involving international\, national\, and local NGOs and CBOs. \n\n\n\nHow does this CoP Work?We will host the community online by means of MS Teams. We will brainstorm on five thematic focus area that we consider relevant for achieving power balanced Strategic Partnerships. Participants may post ideas\, provide feedback on ideas\, ask questions\, suggest relevant resources\, etc. Contributions can be short or long\, depending on the energy participants want to put into it. Each two-week online brainstorm session will be concluded with a brief summary. Once all sessions are completed\, a larger online session will be organized to present findings and define next steps. How do local civil society organizations and international NGOs cope? \n\n\n\nZOA and KUNO invite you to the online Covid-Café #7 on Colombia on Thursday 12 November\, 15:00 CET. \n\n\n\nKUNO Covid-Café: A double crisis in Colombia \n\n\n\nDealing with large groups of Venezuelan refugees and a severe Covid-crisis at the same time \n\n\n\nBefore the coronavirus Colombia was hosting 1.8 million Venezuelan refugees. Colombia was hit hard by Covid-19 and the government proclaimed a stiff lockdown. This was a though stroke for the (informal) economy. Over 100.000 Venezuelan refugees returned to Venezuela. They had no other choice; their livelihood had vaporized. \n\n\n\nBy now\, Colombia seems to have slowed down the pandemic. The lockdown is lifted and the borders are expected to open officially soon. Humanitarian aid workers expect a wave of 200\,000 Venezuelans to come into Colombia to look for better opportunities. \n\n\n\nHow do humanitarian organizations cope in the Colombian regions next to the Venezuelan border? DESCRIPTION:Annual Meeting of the ROYAL NETHERLANDS SOCIETY OF INTERNATIONAL LAW \n\n\n\nThe worldwide use of the internet seems to have a natural fit with both public and private international law. However\, while the Internet stands for ‘transboundary’\, international law is primarily based on ‘territoriality’. Key concepts that come into play then are state sovereignty and the limits thereto\, and questions such as how to deal with the ‘dual use’ of the Internet\, being an instrument in the hands of peaceful protest movements\, but also of people engaging in cyber-espionage\, of e-commerce as well as human trafficking. \n\n\n\nOver the decades\, international law adapted in many ways to the quickly evolving\, multi-facetted digital reality\, and one of the central questions now is whether or not concepts and ideas developed in the ‘predigital era’ still fit the digitalised world. Is international law\, both public and private\, ready for the digital era or has it rather been a ‘fragmented follower of developments’ and should it fundamentally rethink a number of notions and approaches? \n\n\n\nThe Royal Netherlands Society of International Law decided to put the issue on the agenda and invited four legal experts to draft a report (a ‘pre-advies’) on this. Together they deal with a long list of very fundamental questions as well as practical issues across a range of subdisciplines of international law. In doing so\, they challenge both current legal practitioners\, business people\, NGOs and policy makers\, as well those who would like to work in this field in the future. \n\n\n\nAt the 2020 Annual Meeting these authors will present their reports. The Sphere Standards have been field-tested over twenty years\, updates ensure it remains fit for purpose in a changing world.\n\nThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs and KUNO\, the Platform for Humanitarian Knowledge Exchange in The Netherlands\, invite you to an expert meeting on the Sphere Standards on Monday 19 October (time to be announced) in The Hague. \nProgramme \nIn the first part of the expert meeting participants will be updated on the renewed Sphere Standard by trainers Tristan Hale and Axel Schmidt.
