DESCRIPTION:“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.”\n\n\n\nThis basic principle forms the foundation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights This link opens in a new tab – a globally recognized affirmation that all rights apply to everyone everywhere. No matter who you are\, where you live\, or what you do\, everyone has the same rights.But our ability to enjoy these fundamental freedoms remains fragile – because “human rights” seem like an abstract concept with little connection to our daily lives\, or because claiming them may even be dangerous. In order to go back to the core and talk about what human rights mean for us all\, we need to bring human rights home.Through the #BringHumanRightsHome campaign\, the Netherlands Helsinki Committee\, in partnership with human rights organisations from across Europe\, is sharing the personal stories of courageous people from eight different countries whose rights were severely violated. Hailing from Azerbaijan\, Hungary\, Kazakhstan\, Poland\, Russia\, Turkey\, Ukraine\, and the Netherlands\, they overcame opposition in court\, personal threats\, and financial hardship; stood up to actors much more powerful than themselves – yet never gave up. With the support of friends\, family\, and communities\, they reclaimed their rights – for themselves\, and ultimately\, for us all. De wereldwijde uitbraak van het virus vormt een gevaar voor iedereen. Meer dan 215 landen zijn geraakt door de pandemie\, waaronder 134 gastgemeenschappen van vluchtelingen.  \n\n\n\nVan alle mensen op de vlucht woont 85% in lage- en middeninkomenslanden. Vaak is de gezondheidszorg in deze landen beperkt of overbelast. Een groot deel van hen woont in overvolle vluchtelingenkampen\, geïmproviseerde onderkomens of in drukke stedelijke gebieden. Hierdoor hebben zij beperkte toegang tot gezondheidszorg\, schoon drinkwater of sanitaire voorzieningen.  \n\n\n\nAfstand houden\, handen wassen en zelfisolatie is vaak niet mogelijk voor vluchtelingen. Zeker als onderkomens of sanitaire voorzieningen gedeeld moeten worden met veel anderen. Daarom ligt de focus van UNHCR niet op het bestrijden van het virus\, maar op het voorkomen van besmettingen. Er zijn tot nu toe nog geen grote virusuitbraken in vluchtelingenkampen geregistreerd. Echter is het lastig om een volledig beeld van het aantal besmettingen vast te stellen. Maar uit officiële cijfers blijkt dat in februari 2021 rond de 49.000 mensen op de vlucht in 105 landen besmet zijn geweest met het coronavirus.  \n\n\n\nOndanks het uitblijven van grote uitbraken onder vluchtelingen heeft de coronacrisis een enorme impact op de levens van mensen op de vlucht. Terwijl ons reguliere werk doorgaat\, vragen de gevolgen van de coronapandemie veel aandacht van onze collega’s wereldwijd.  \n\n\n\nGraag laten wij je via dit webinar de impact van het coronavirus op ons werk zien. SUMMARY:The Hague Conversations on Conflict - Yemen: Once again at a crossroads
DESCRIPTION:Started in 2019 by LINKS Europe and The Hague Humanity Hub\, The Hague Conversations on Conflict aim to rethink approaches to conflict prevention and resolution and to provide a forum where the changing nature of conflict can be analysed and assessed\, together with the responses of international society. \n\n\n\nA new situation is emerging in Yemen\, both on the military and the political fronts\, with several ongoing efforts to revive and support the UN peace process\, including efforts by the US Special Envoy for Yemen\, Timothy Lenderking\, and the European Union.   \n\n\n\nThe recent military campaign in Marib suggests that no talks will be held before there are gains on the ground. This undoubtedly poses serious concerns for the humanitarian situation amidst poor donor pledges in both 2020 and 2021. This reality cannot be ignored as it could shape the peace process going forwards and is capable of redefining Yemen’s relationship with its neighbours.  \n\n\n\nLooking at the conflict from a regional perspective\, it is now clear that neither Iran’s nor Saudi Arabia’s roles can be ignored or be disregarded in the peace process. In addition\, other actors have pitched in\, with some\, such as the UAE\, playing rather ambiguous roles. Conversely\, Oman has been active since the beginning to foster dialogue between the different Yemeni groups and is open to mediate between all Yemeni actors.    \n\n\n\nWith Yemen at a crossroads on various fronts\, this event will look into the current political\, security\, regional and humanitarian prospects for the future.  \n\n\n\nAfter the panel discussion and Q&A\, participants will be given the chance to discuss the topic and network in online break-out rooms during which some of the issues discussed can be further unpacked. While there are clearly many benefits to online communication\, online hate speech poses an increasing threat. Hate speech can take on many different forms and is often not easily detected\, and rarely efficiently countered. Most commonly\, hateful comments and posts are reported\, which can solve the problem in the short term but not sustainably.  \n\n\n\nThis year’s World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development\, we want to contribute to raising awareness about the importance of safe online environments and the threat that hate speech poses to dialogue and development.  \n\n\n\nIn collaboration with our partners Youth for Peace (BiH) and the ALTer Hate Campaign (BiH) we are organising an interactive workshop on May 21. In the research Tim identified a ‘justice gap’. DESCRIPTION:Graag nodigen Building Change\, Global Compact Network Nederland\, MVO Nederland\, Partos en SDG Nederland in samenwerking met de Rijksoverheid je uit voor de bijeenkomst ‘Route 2030: Hoe kunnen we versnellen om de SDG’s te behalen?’ op woensdagochtend 19 mei. Tijdens deze bijeenkomst worden in het kader van Verantwoordingsdag twee rapportages gepresenteerd: De ‘Monitor Brede Welvaart en Sustainable Development Goals 2021’ van het CBS en de vijfde Nederlandse SDG rapportage ‘Nederland Ontwikkelt Duurzaam’ van de Rijksoverheid. \n\n\n\nDe lancering van deze rapportages vormt een mooie aanleiding om te bespreken hoe het ervoor staat met de uitvoering van de SDG’s in en door Nederland. En nog belangrijker: hoe we met elkaar en met de overheid kunnen versnellen om de doelen in 2030 te behalen.  \n\n\n\nNa de presentaties van de twee rapportages vindt een dialoog plaats tussen vertegenwoordigers uit het bedrijfsleven\, van NGO’s\, financiële sector\, jongerenorganisaties én Tweede Kamerleden over thema’s waar we in Nederland extra stappen gaan zetten met de verschillende sectoren\, te weten: welke extra stappen gaan de verschillende sectoren met elkaar zetten om de SDG’s te behalen en wat moet de overheid doen om dit proces te versnellen?  \n\n\n\nDoel van de bijeenkomst is om inzicht krijgen in de doelen waar we op achterlopen (mede gezien COVID-19) en wat er nodig is om te versnellen. Op basis daarvan raadplegen over wat er in de SDG Routekaart naar voren moet komen en hoe we kunnen komen tot een betekenisvolle vertaling van de mondiale doelen voor de Nederlandse context. \n\n\n\nHet publiek bestaat uit ongeveer 1000 vertegenwoordigers van bedrijven\, de financiële sector\, NGO’s\, kennisinstellingen\, gemeenten en jongerenorganisaties. SUMMARY:Predicting Conflict: The Water\, Peace & Security Partnership Early Warning Tool
DESCRIPTION:The average level of peacefulness deteriorated for the ninth time in twelve years This link opens in a new tab. The nature of conflict is transforming across the world. Yet the information space is changing so quickly that it threatens to leave many early warning/early action (EWEA) efforts behind. Availability of big data\, including easy access to what people say and do online\, combined with advanced computational capacity\, opens a potential for the EWEA community to use the momentum and advance their field further. We believe that an important step in achieving this goal is exchanging the lessons and latest efforts transparently between actors and regions. With this goal\, we are facilitating this workshop as an open space for this exchange to happen. Join us! \n\n\n\nObjectives \n\n\n\nThe overall objective is to facilitate peer-to-peer exchange on best practices in EWEA. The event will bring together at the international level (for the first time) national and international actors working on early warning/early action to share lessons learned on effective models\, practices\, and methods to influence decision making and enable conflict prevention on the ground. It will also help to establish networks and create opportunities for capacity building with data visualization tools. Substantively\, the conference will shed the light on advanced techniques with the greatest potential to revolutionize the field. \n\n\n\nFormat \n\n\n\nThis conference will create an online space across different time zones and gather voices around the world to discuss the latest developments in EWEA. It will offer hands-on experience in working with advanced data-driven methodologies and improve capacity to implement data-driven action for preventive\, early action for peace and security of key civil society organizations\, multilateral organizations\, and governments. We witnessed many statements and opinions\, but perhaps not so much common ground to proceed from. \n\n\n\nKUNO\, Partos\, and The Institute of Social Studies (ISS) we take one step back and approach the discussion in a series of talks.
