During that time\, you will hear about the inspiring projects and successes of fellow community members. \n\n\n\nWho is it for? \n\n\n\nIf you are working in a professional capacity towards a more peaceful and just world\, you are welcome to join us\, whatever your role and your sector. Come to the Community Drinks\, relax\, and join this vibrant community committed to making our world fairer and more just – one connection at a time. \n\n\n\nWho are the spotlight speakers? \n\n\n\nINSO \n\n\n\nINSO was founded to support NGOs operating in high-risk countries through information\, coordination\, and capacity building for safety and access. Their primary goal is enabling partners to safely deliver aid where it’s most needed. INSO teams live and work alongside NGOs in conflict zones\, providing real-time security support\, analysis reports\, 24/7 alerts\, incident tracking\, coordination meetings\, training\, and tailored services. Today\, INSO assists over 1\,300 NGOs in more than 20 countries\, offering services free of charge\, supported by humanitarian donors\, and committed to helping those who help others. \n\n\n\nN’NINKIE \n\n\n\nThe N’NINKIE Program was initiated by PfefferminzGreen and builds on nearly two decades of localization experience by moving beyond traditional aid\, thereby empowering African communities toward sustainable\, independent development. Inspired by the Temne word “N’NINKIE\,” meaning “community\,” the program highlights local knowledge and internal solutions\, and it amplifies African changemakers to challenge outdated narratives of dependency. N’NINKIE promotes indigenous expertise\, strengthens local NGOs\, and facilitates collaboration through research\, networking\, and strategic support. \n\n\n\nFor any inquiries\, please contact programming@humanityhub.net

SUMMARY:The State as a Humanitarian Actor: What will the post-liberal humanitarian system look like?
DESCRIPTION:In this hybrid Humanitarian Studies Centre and Humanitarian Governance seminar\, Dr Oscar A. Gómez will critically confront the strong anti-State bias inherent in the liberal humanitarian system. \n\n\n\nBased on the assumptions of incapacity or unwillingness to meet humanitarian needs\, humanitarian studies primarily focus on non-state actors. This is problematic for several reasons\, as it perpetuates the colonial structure of humanitarianism\, wherein wealthy Western states act as benefactors through (also Western) non-state humanitarian actors who assist the weak and wicked rest.  \n\n\n\nDr Oscar A. Gómez will argue that any attempt to salvage humanitarianism from its colonial past and present necessitates recognizing and scrutinizing the state’s role as a humanitarian actor.  \n\n\n\nSo\, what kind of humanitarian actor is the State? What are its characteristics? How does it reshape our understanding of humanitarian action?  \n\n\n\nHe will present the case study of Colombia and its enduring struggle with multiple humanitarian needs to address these questions through both discourse and practice. In light of fundamental changes in international humanitarianism\, he will propose a profile of the State as a humanitarian actor\, outlining its primary features and implications for the future of humanitarianism.

SUMMARY:Shaping Collective Action for the Humanitarian Emergency in Sudan
DESCRIPTION:About this event \n\n\n\nJoin us for a Critical Dialogue reflecting on the role of diverse actors engaged in complex humanitarian contexts\, in particular the urgent and deteriorating situation in Sudan. With decreasing foreign aid\, we have a moral imperative to find alternative solutions to counter the rampant abuse and famine while assessing and mitigating risks. The aim of this session is to examine and explore the current and potentially increasing role of Netherlands-based actors\, including the private sector\, in responding to humanitarian crises. Recently the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Trade & Development published a Policy Letter emphasizing private sector-led initiatives\, specifically in food security and economic resilience in Sudan. This session will reflect on the implications for cross-sectorial collaboration moving forward. \n\n\n\nThis Dialogue will examine risks and possibilities\, including how different kinds of investments and engagement can be coordinated and leveraged\, while elevating and building from the existing efforts on the ground in Sudan. The Critical Dialogue aims to engage the diversity of actors in The Hague\, a city which convenes a broad ecosystem of actors in peace\, justice and humanitarian aid. \n\n\n\nThe expected outcome of the dialogue is a number of timely and forward-thinking considerations on decision making in response to the situation in Sudan nationally from the perspective of the Netherlands\, and in turn influencing international actors. We will record the outcomes of this Dialogue and invite follow-on ideas and engagement. \n\n\n\nProgramme \n\n\n\nScene setting panel \n\n\n\nThe panel will convene private sector actors\, humanitarian organisations\, financial institutions and ministry representatives to discuss risk assessment and in humanitarian crises focusing on Sudan. \n\n\n\nFacilitated dialogue \n\n\n\nThrough facilitated dialogue and breakouts the participants will engage in further critical discussions assessing risk within their roles\, envisioned partnerships based on Dutch policy brief. \n\n\n\nIntended target group \n\n\n\nThis event is intended for private sector actors and professionals who have some experience of humanitarian contexts and/ or working in/ with Sudan. \n\n\n\nThe event is organised with the input of humanitarian organisations. Prior to the event\, we will compile a list of sources on the current situation in Sudan to inform the dialogue. \n\n\n\nMore about Critical Dialogues \n\n\n\nIn line with the Humanity Hub’s mission to support and strengthen The Hague’s peace and justice ecosystem\, we aim to create a space to foster reflection and introspection as well as collaboration and action on shared challenges and marginalised topics. By bringing together diverse actors\, we create space to examine prevailing narratives\, explore cross-sectoral solutions\, and amplify underrepresented voices. These dialogues aim to strengthen collective action and shape more inclusive and effective approaches to global challenges. \n\n\n\nIf you register for this event and later are unable to attend\, please notify us or cancel your tickets so that we can account for your absence. \n\n\n\nWe may take photographs\, videos\, and recordings at our events for promotional purposes (e.g.\, on our website and social media). If you do not wish to appear in media\, please inform the event organizers upon arrival\, and you’ll be given a distinctive tag indicating your preference.

SUMMARY:Bijeenkomst pensioenregeling Partos & PwC
DESCRIPTION:Alle werkgevers moeten hun pensioenregeling aanpassen vanwege nieuwe pensioenwetgeving.

SUMMARY:Trauma and Memory: Intergenerational Memories of the Siege of Sarajevo
DESCRIPTION:Image by Pasanheco on Envato\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganised by: Leiden University College\, Hague Humanity Hub & Knowledge Platform Security & Rule of Law \n\n\n\nJoin us for the next edition in the Fireside Peace Chats event series! This edition focuses on themes of trauma and memory with guest speaker Emina Zoletic from the University of Warsaw.  \n\n\n\nEmina will talk about the Siege of Sarajevo\, which lasted from 5th April 1992 to 29th February 1996. Emina’s research engages with issues of national\, cultural\, and ethnic identity and postwar memories\, which intersect with traumatic memories and social justice issues. The central part of this research explores intergenerational war memories in Sarajevo and diasporic families across several locations in the EU and the USA. \n\n\n\nLooking at local and transnational dimensions\, it was essential to show how intergenerational transmission of war memories is processed\, experienced\, reshaped\, and activated by research interlocutors 30 years after the war. How is the siege of Sarajevo remembered by those who directly experienced it? How do war and migration memories play out in family and broader social\, political\, and cultural contexts? Looking at two groups helped the research to determine the influence of the broader victimhood narratives and how they are mediated through diaspora groups. Emina’s research demonstrates how\, on the level of family units\, there is a persistent inability to process and deal with traumatic memories in a space where re-traumatisation is ongoing\, which affects the meaning-making processes. \n\n\n\nThis Edition’s Guest Speaker\n\n\n\nEmina Zoletic is a doctoral candidate at the University of Warsaw\, Centre for research social memories.  She is currently doing a CEEPUS fellowship (March-June) at the University of Vienna Institute of Sociology. She was a Fulbright visiting researcher at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs\, New York\, from 2023 to 2024. She leverages her background in psychology and a decade of clinical experience to focus on families from Sarajevo whose older members survived the war in Bosnia and their children born after the war.  \n\n\n\nMore About Fireside Peace Chats\n\n\n\nThe Fireside Peace Chats series is an event series consisting of informal\, intimate chats with peacebuilders who have either lived in for an extended period of time or are from conflict-affected environments. Fireside Peace Chats are a joint initiative of Leiden University College The Hague (LUC)\, Knowledge Platform for Security and Rule of the Law (KPSRL)\, and The Hague Humanity Hub (THHH)\, with an aim to open a space where practice\, research and policy in peacebuilding come together in an informal way\, through experience of people on the ground. This initiative aims to contribute to a locally informed paradigm shift in liberal peacebuilding.

SUMMARY:Inclusive Service Delivery and the SDGs
DESCRIPTION:Local public services\, such as healthcare\, clean water and social services\, have a great impact on our daily lives and well-being. However\, in many countries\, low-income communities often lack access to these important services. Local governments can improve access and make a difference. To do this\, they need sufficient capacity and resources\, and support from the central government. \n\n\n\nThe Inclusive Service Delivery and the SDGs course explores how the different levels of government can cooperate effectively to realise inclusive public service delivery. The Sustainable Development Goals provide a starting point for discussion and knowledge sharing. In particular\, we will address SDG 3 (good health and well-being)\, 5 (gender equality)\, 6 (clean water and sanitation)\, 8 (decent work and economic growth)\, 10 (reduced inequalities)\, 11 (sustainable cities and communities) and 16 (peace\, justice and strong institutions). The course discusses analytical tools and methods to finance local services. Attention will also be paid to policies to involve citizens and strategies to strengthen public-private cooperation. \n\n\n\nKey Information\n\n\n\nThis course is aimed at professionals working in the field of decentralisation\, local governance\, public service provision and development. Participants come form central\, regional and local governments\, NGOs and donor and development organisations.  \n\n\n\nThe course will take place in The Hague from 05 May 2025 to 16 May 2025. \n\n\n\nThe course fee is € 3\,895*. This includes all training related costs as well as drinks and warm lunches during the training days. Group discounts are available if you participate with three or more colleagues. \n\n\n\nThis training takes place in The Hague\, Netherlands. \n\n\n\nAfter this course\, you will receive a professional certificate of completion from The Hague Academy for Local Governance. \n\n\n\n*Professionals working in local government or for local NGOs on the DAC list of ODA-recipient countries (OECD) may qualify for a reduced course fee. SUMMARY:The Political Unconscious of Global China Studies "The Taiwan Consensus and the Ethos of Area Studies: Spectral Transitions"
DESCRIPTION:Image by Leungchopan on Envato\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for the next edition of the Fireside Peace Chats event series\, titled “The Political Unconcious of Global China Studies\,” in which we will discuss his recent work The Taiwan Consensus and the Ethos of Area Studies: Spectral Transitions. \n\n\n\nThe reason why consideration of the political unconscious in relation to transitions is essential to the discussion of Global China Studies is that the “apparatus of area” in which Global China Studies participates and of which it is an exemplary instance is ultimately a means for “managing\,” in a rather large and abstract sense\, both the meaning and the process of transition. The Taiwan Consensus and the Ethos of Area Studies: Spectral Transitions constitutes a timely intervention into debates over the status of Taiwan\, at a moment when discussions of democracy and autocracy\, imperialism and agency\, unipolarity and multipolarity\, dominate the intellectual agenda of the day. Pursuing a parallel trajectory that is both epistemic and historical\, that is traced out in relation both to Taiwan’s recent history and to the disparate forms of knowledge production about that history\, this work engages in scholarly debate about some of the burning issues of our time\, including transitional justice\, hegemony and conspiracy in the digital age\, debt regimes\, cultural difference\, national language\, and the traumatic legacies of war\, colonialism\, anticommunism\, antiblackness\, and neoliberalism.  \n\n\n\nThis Edition’s Guest Speaker\n\n\n\nJon Douglas Solomon is a professor in the Department of Chinese Literature\, Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 and a researcher attached to the Centre de Recherches Plurilingues et Multidisciplinaires\, Université Paris Nanterre. His publications have focused on the biopolitics of translation\, developing a critique of the disciplinary divisions of the Humanities in their relation to the economic and political divisions of the postcolonial world. Recent publications include a book in Chinese about the 2019 Hong Kong anti-ELAB movement\, A Genealogy of Defeat of the Left: Translation\, Transition\, and Bordering in the anti-ELAB Movement in Hong Kong\, and an article in English titled Logistical Species and Translational Process: A Critique of the Colonial—Imperial Modernity that appeared in the Montreal-based journal Intermédialités. More information about his 2023 book The Taiwan Consensus and the Ethos of Area Studies: Spectral Transitions is available here.

SUMMARY:Expert Meeting on the Humanitarian Crisis in Eastern DRC (Part 2)
DESCRIPTION:Image by Stichting Vluchteling\n\n\n\n\n\nFollowing the conversation on the 6th of March this year\, KUNO organises this meeting to take stock of the challenges in responding to the humanitarian needs in the region.  \n\n\n\nAbout the event\n\n\n\nSince the rapid offensive by M23 rebels and the seizure of Goma and Bukavu\, the Eastern DRC is experiencing a severe\, escalated humanitarian crisis. UNHCR reports that some million people are estimated to be displaced in North and South Kivu. Sexual and gender-based violence has surged alarmingly. SUMMARY:Rules for a lawless world? The international legal order in an age of great-power struggle for normative primacy
DESCRIPTION:This lecture is part of the symposium ‘Rules for a Lawless World?’\, which explores the state and future of the international legal order in an age of great-power rivalry. \n\n\n\nThe symposium explores the consequences of the struggle for global normative primacy between China and the USA and their respective allies\, for the prospect of a law-governed world\, or its potential collapse. Focusing on the ordering\, protective and emancipatory functions of international law\, it seeks to grasp the state and direction of the international legal order—whether we are witnessing the breakdown of existing legal norms\, their pervasive violation\, or their replacement with alternative standards. Ultimately\, the symposium probes how great-power rivalry affects humanity’s aspiration for a world ruled by the force of law\, and not the law of force. \n\n\n\nKeynote Speakers\n\n\n\nAgnès Callamard\, Secretary General at Amnesty InternationalDr Agnès Callamard is Secretary General at Amnesty International. She leads the organization’s human rights work and is its chief spokesperson. She is responsible for providing overall leadership of the International Secretariat\, including setting the strategic direction for the organisation and managing relations with Amnesty International’s national entities. In 2016\, she was appointed as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extra-judicial\, summary or arbitrary killings. Along with her UN work\, she was also the Director of Global Freedom of Expression at Columbia University in New York.  \n\n\n\nFrancesca Albanese\, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories (Online)Ms. Francesca Albanese is an international lawyer\, specialised in human rights and the Middle East. SUMMARY:International law and the governance of AI-driven military technologies
DESCRIPTION:This innovative two-day training programme\, co-organised with the  This link opens in a new tabStockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) This link opens in a new tab\, will provide you with a deep understanding of military applications of artificial intelligence (AI). It will create a common basis of knowledge around key features of these technologies\, their associated risks and benefits\, and the various regimes of international law relevant to their governance. \n\n\n\nArtificial Intelligence is revolutionising military operations\, driving the development of autonomous weapons systems (AWS)\, decision-support tools (AI-DSS)\, and other advanced warfare technologies. While these innovations advance at a rapid pace and AI offer significant promise for military operations\, they also pose substantial risks\, particularly with regard to compliance with international law. \n\n\n\nTo address these risks\, numerous governance efforts and initiatives have emerged\, with a notable increase\, particularly over the past two years. These efforts seek\, among other things\, to establish prohibitions\, limits\, and requirements for use while building on and reinforcing existing obligations under international law. \n\n\n\nYet\, a lack of an informed understanding of these technologies and how international legal frameworks apply to their development and use is an obstacle to the advancement of governance efforts. \n\n\n\nThis short course aims to contribute to the progress of governance efforts and other initiatives around AI-driven military technologies\, by providing insights and an informed understanding of:   \n\n\n\n\n– AI-driven military technologies\, including AWS and AI-DSS\n\n\n\n– Recent and upcoming developments in AI in the military domain\n\n\n\n– AI-related concepts\, such as predictability\, explainability\, and traceability. These concepts are crucial for policymakers and experts to advance constructive debates. \n\n\n\n– Knowledge of the different regimes of international law that play a role in the governance of AI-driven military technologies\n\n\n\n\nWho can attend? \n\n\n\nThis short course would be valuable for policymakers\, legal advisors\, diplomats and other individuals involved or interested in the development\, use\, governance and adjudication of AI-enabled military technologies.  \n\n\n\nThis short course is organised in collaboration with the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

SUMMARY:Impact of ODA Budget Cuts on The Hague Ecosystem – Presentation & Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:What lessons are emerging from the impact of ODA cuts and how can we act on them together? \n\n\n\nThis community dialogue is grounded in the findings of our Ecosystem Risk Analysis\, a research initiative that mapped the early impacts of budget cuts across the Hague peace and justice ecosystem. While the results confirm many shared concerns\, they also offer a baseline from which to explore collective responses and adaptive strategies. \n\n\n\nWe invite you to jointly reflect on these insights and explore pathways toward a more resilient and connected ecosystem. \n\n\n\nOver the course of March and April\, we conducted a survey\, interviews and desk research to gain a better understanding of the financial and operational impact of the (inter)national budget cuts. The results are in and we would like to share the research findings with survey respondents\, interviewees and anyone else interested. We invite you to jointly reflect on the impact of these recent changes on the peace and justice ecosystem of The Hague and how we can move forward together. \n\n\n\nSession Objectives: \n\n\n\n-Share research insights to establish a common understanding \n\n\n\n-Invite participants to reflect on their own experiences and challenges \n\n\n\n-Discuss implications for the Hague ecosystem  \n\n\n\n-Reflect on how to move forward together \n\n\n\nWho is it for: \n\n\n\n-Survey respondents\,  \n\n\n\n-Interviewees \n\n\n\n-Policy advisors \n\n\n\n-Other interested parties  \n\n\n\nFor any questions or concerns\, please contact engage@humanityhub.net
