SUMMARY:Mine Mark Exhibition Opening Day
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE MINE MARK FOUNDATION \n\n\n\nThe Mine Mark Foundation is a Mine Risk Education initiative which aims to protect children living in conflict zones from the harm of landmines and other explosive remnants of war. \n\n\n\nMine Mark’s mission is reducing the number of casualties from explosive remnants of war by providing free and state-of-the-art Mine Risk Education to children living in contaminated areas. \n\n\n\nOUR PLAYFUL AND EFFECTIVE METHOD \n\n\n\nMine Mark adapted the UNMAS guidelines on how to survive in landmine-contaminated areas into cartoons and games. Their innovative translation equips children with life-saving information that are appealing and easy to understand. This ensures that Mine Mark’s approach to Mine Risk Education is child-centered and provides the children with the right tools to identify landmines and warning signs. \n\n\n\nThe Mine Mark Foundation implements board games\, cartoons and educational material in an effort to raise awareness\, create risk sensibility and enable safer living conditions in contaminated regions. \n\n\n\nBesides physical learning tools\, the Mine Mark Foundation is developing an online platform which will enable to publish online material and educational games. This platform combines e-learning and educational video games and it will enable a broader and faster distribution of Mine Risk Education to \n\n\n\nchildren living in different conflict areas. \n\n\n\nAN EXHIBITION TO SHOW CHILDREN’S PERSPECTIVE \n\n\n\nIn 2020\, children accounted for 54% of all civilian land mine casualties\, representing a 12% increase over the past two reporting years. In an effort to raise awareness about landmine contamination and casualties\, Mine Mark is organising an online exhibition showcasing drawings by children living in landmine contaminated areas and contrasting them with drawings done by children raised in peaceful\, unaffected countries. \n\n\n\nThe children were asked to draw images of “Peace & Dreams” to give space to their experiences and the impact that conflict had on their lives and aspirations. \n\n\n\nIn this online exhibition\, the visitors will admire artworks of children from local schools of Azerbaijan and Ukraine. Both countries have been through conflicts\, and the Mine Mark Foundation has conducted landmine risk education in schools of the affected regions. \n\n\n\nTo expand the representation of children’s perspective\, the Mine Mark Foundation collected other images from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)\, courtesy of United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals\, and other parts of Europe. \n\n\n\nHAVE A LOOK \n\n\n\nThe Exhibition will take place at https://minemarkexhibition.org/ This link opens in a new tab from the 15th of December\, 2020 to 15th of February\, 2021.  \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:High-Level Event on Data Responsibility in Humanitarian Action
DESCRIPTION:The OCHA Centre for Humanitarian Data\, in partnership with the European Commission Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO)\, are pleased to convene this high-level event on Data Responsibility in Humanitarian Action. \n\n\n\nData responsibility — the safe\, ethical\, and effective management of data — is a critical issue for humanitarians. The stakes are high: data can enable more effective and efficient humanitarian response\, but as organizations process increasingly large volumes of data\, they face more complex challenges. Ensuring we ‘do no harm’ while maximizing the benefits of data requires collective action that extends across the humanitarian system. This is especially relevant in light of the COVID-19 pandemic\, which has exacerbated existing humanitarian emergencies around the world and increased the sector’s reliance on digital technologies and data. \n\n\n\nOver the last two years\, OCHA and ECHO have partnered to increase trust and cooperation within the humanitarian data ecosystem. We are now organizing a high-level virtual event to share lessons learned and examine the systemic challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for collective action on data responsibility. The discussion will feature experts from OCHA\, ECHO\, the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR)\, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)\, and REACH. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW This link opens in a new tab

SUMMARY:Facing and Learning from COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:Organised together with the Spanish Ministry of Transport\, Mobility\, and Urban Agenda (MITMA)\, this webinar will take place on 14 January 2021. It will form part of the EUKN ‘Thinking Beyond the Crisis’ series\, which explores the urban impacts of and responses to the coronavirus outbreak in EUKN member countries.  \n\n\n\nGiven their share of the global population\, cities have been majorly hit\, suffering from the social\, infrastructural\, and economic crisis set in motion by the pandemic. On the flipside of the coin\, cities are also best placed to act and rethink their approach to urban space on the road to recovery. The webinar will look into how urban areas have acted as both implementation arenas of nation-wide measures and as laboratories for devising innovative strategies. The goal is to offer a meaningful platform to share experiences and reflect on urban strategies tackling different dimensions of urban health in light of the pandemic. In the first part\, the webinar will provide a European take on the issue of ‘health and the city’ during and after COVID-19\, showcasing strategies from Spanish and other EU cities. In the second part\, participants will be invited to interactive thematic discussions. The objective will be to co-produce practical recommendations for Spanish municipalities to adapt resilience strategies in line with Local Action Plans of the Spanish Urban Agenda (AUE) or City Strategies. \n\n\n\nIt will take place on Zoom\, with interpretation in English and Spanish. \n\n\n\nRead the draft programme here (English version).Read the draft programme here (Spanish version). \n\n\n\nPlease contact federica.risi@eukn.eu for any queries related to the event. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Symposium: How are novel military technologies changing modern conflicts?
DESCRIPTION:The rapidly growing use of drones and robots\, and data-driven military analysis  will likely have profound impacts on the future of warfare. To better understand the implications of these developments for our armed forces\, military interventions\, and foreign policy\, PAX will host an online symposium with a broad array of experts on Friday\, February 26th at 15:00-17:30 CEST.\n\n\n\nIn recent years\, major developments in military technology have allowed for a rapid growth in the use of un-crewed systems for the detection and clearance of explosives\, surveillance and reconnaissance operations\, as well as the elimination of targets. At the same time\, countries like the Netherlands are increasingly resorting to remote warfare. This type of warfare generally involves a combination of airstrikes\, military training\, the use of militias and special force units\, the sharing of intelligence\, and the forming of alliances with non-state armed groups. \n\n\n\nWhile this shift from “boots on the ground” to countering threats from a distance may appear to bring military advantages\, there is an important need to further explore resulting implications for the protection of civilians and assess its effectiveness for long-term peace and security. Will these developments lower the threshold for the use of force? How do they influence the operations of Dutch military forces and their participation in peacekeeping operations? What are the additional risks faced by Dutch soldiers when other countries or non-state armed groups acquire these technologies? And can we ensure the accuracy of high-speed data streams and risk assessments in the heat of the battle? \n\n\n\nThese and other questions will be addressed at our online symposium\, where military experts\, politicians\, civil society representatives and academics will engage in a conversation moderated by journalist Bahram Sadegi on the opportunities\, risks and costs of these military developments. \n\n\n\nThe event will also feature a short film by the artist Anastasija Kiake\, entitled “Kind of Blue”\, on the remoteness of modern warfare. \n\n\n\nSpeakers will include: \n\n\n\nLieutenant colonel Martijn Hädicke: Commander Robot Autonomous Systems Unit\, Royal Netherland Army \n\n\n\nBianca Torossian: Research Fellow\, The Hague Centre for Security Studies \n\n\n\nLauren Gould: Assistant Professor Conflict Studies and Director of the Intimacies of Remote Warfare Programme\, University of Utrecht \n\n\n\nWim Zwijnenburg: Humanitarian Disarmament Project Leader\, PAX\, and Coordinator\, European Forum on Armed Drones \n\n\n\nSalima Belhaj: Member of Parliament\, D66 \n\n\n\nTom van den Nieuwenhuijzen: Member of Parliament\, Groenlinks \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Workshop - Better than being there: see how your online events can be so much better
DESCRIPTION:Join us to explore and understand how your large events in 2021 can truly exceed your own expectations. We will show you what is possible and have you leave inspired\, armed with clear options. \n\n\n\nWe had the knowledge\, skills and abilities in remote working and collaborative online work needed to help. So we did. \n\n\n\nIn fact\, in 2020 we worked with international organizations such as UNICEF\, UNHCR and REN21 to help design\, produce and deliver their global conferences that were\, in so many ways ‘even better than being there’. \n\n\n\n“ImpactBasis helped us design and facilitate a highly interactive and engaging academy; sourcing and managing a platform that allowed for this\, co-developing the agenda\, leveraging their contacts to provide speakers and other experts like film production and live drawing\, that made all the difference to the event. We are thrilled with the feedback we have received from participants and speakers. We would highly recommend them – as a team they are professional yet human and great to team with!“ Rana Adib\, Executive Director\, REN21(Renewable Energy) \n\n\n\nDuring this workshop\, we will show you a selection of platforms to tantalise and even get you into thinking about what is possible for you. And you will hear first-hand experiences of the secret sauce that can make a difference\, turning from a passive event into something truly meaningful. \n\n\n\nThere is so much to gain from online conferences: a more inclusive environment\, worldwide participation\, extended reach\, less environmental impact\, rationalised cost and the ability to truly immerse participants in the experience. All with not a single webinar in sight. \n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: This event is limited to a fixed amount of tickets. If you miss out this time please drop us a line hello@impactbasis.com for information on when we’ll run this event again. \n\n\n\nAdditionally\, there are a limited number of complimentary tickets available for Hub members! \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER This link opens in a new tab

The pandemic also enhanced consumer consciousness as air travel became problematic and we realized how dependent we are on other countries in our global economy. With this compact presentation Wyke Potjer and Asceline Groot from the online platform hetkanWel.nl (we can do this) will talk you through 7 sustainable lifestyle trends\, show you how this can impact your business and quiz you on the way with a few questions on sustainable consumer behaviour. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER This link opens in a new tab

SUMMARY:Webinar: Adapt to defend. The security dimension of climate change
DESCRIPTION:The security dimension of climate change is increasingly recognized by the Defence sector\, and Dutch and British voices have been leading internationally in raising awareness on this issue. Whereas climate change initially was considered just as a new risk factor\, attention has shifted to how the increase of extreme weather events impacts todays’ military capabilities\, how defence organisations and institutions can adapt and mitigate\, and to how the military can contribute to environmental peacebuilding efforts. Another area of attention is how military research and innovation could better align with energy transition objectives\, and become a test-bed and accelerator of new technologies and how new tech can be harnessed to reduce the climate impact of defence organisations. \n\n\n\nIn the run-up to COP26 This link opens in a new tab that will be organized at the end of 2021 (1-12 November\, Glasgow)\, this webinar\, that is co-organised by the British Embassy in the Netherlands and the Clingendael Institute\, will consider how the military can contribute more to reducing security risks related to climate change. When a post-Corona virus world emerges\, the military needs to be prepared to confront this challenge head-on.  \n\n\n\nThis event will focus attention on broadening the discussion of climate change by drawing upon the Planetary Security Initiative climate-security nexus research. How\, in what way and in what context can defence organisations be involved and play a role. For example\, what does this changing environmental (operational) context mean for MODs\, NATO and partners? SUMMARY:Female leadership in peacebuilding: What can we learn from women in the field?
DESCRIPTION:Panel Talk (YouTube Livestream) and After Event Networking Session (Zoom)!  \n\n\n\nNote: Separate registration. \n\n\n\nAs part of the celebrations last year (2020) we saw firm commitments from the United Nations Secretary General This link opens in a new tab on the Women\, Peace\, and Security agenda and a reminder that we run the risk of losing hard-fought gains on gender equality and peace and recovering better from the COVID-19 pandemic.
